Most of those games I wouldn’t even bother playing, and this is coming from an avid Nintendo fanboy enthusiast Wink

I’m not really big on Mario sports games, so far there is: Mario Golf, Mario Tennis, Mario Strikers (football/soccer), Mario Superstar Baseball, and Mario 3-on-3 (basketball).

Mario & Sonic at the Olympics just seems like more unnecessary milking of the cow, and although it’s probably a fun game along with Mario Party 8, I’m just not interested. I would really like to see Nintendo spend more time making games for half the characters they showcase on SSBB.

Super Smash Bros Brawl is a really good game, a game that I had been waiting for, for a long time that satisfied me in the short term. But ultimately it has disappointed me more than it has impressed me.

I’m really disappointed with the imbalance of character strengths. Some of the characters (Pit and Sonic to name a few) smash attacks or lack there of, are absolutely piss poor and stand no chance against characters abundant with powerful smash attacks. As apposed to setting the game up so that every character has an equal chance against any other character, it’s setup up so that some characters are simply superior against others.

Another thing that lets me down is similar characters having the same Ultimate Smash i.e. Fox, Falco and Wolf all have the same Ultimate Smash, as do Link, and Toon Link. Some characters just having absolutely crap Ultimate Smash attacks that don’t really “smash” anyone, like Peach for example.

Everyone was talking about the amount of effort that went into SSBB, but after playing it for a few weeks, I became more sceptical. The graphics have improved, and there are roughly 15 + stages. The Subspace Emissary is pretty cool, and it was co-op so I was fairly pleased about that because it was also really long, but apart from that the rest of the game flakes out on the “effort” put in.

The stage builder is absolute tripe. I’m pretty disgusted that Nintendo would even consider it passable. I mean, this is 2008, SSBB is supposed to be the game on the Wii for this year, and it’s platform based stage builder can’t even hold a candle to the fully 3D park editor of Tony Hawk 4 released on the PS2 6 years ago. HELL! It can’t even hold a candle to the park editor for Tony Hawk 2 released on the PS1 8 years ago. For crying out loud! Step it up Nintendo. You can’t allocate starting positions/spawn points, you can’t vertically flip objects, and a lot of the buffer zones are ridiculous and prevent you from tiling certain pieces on top of or next to each other. The range of backgrounds is 3. The range of different textures is 3, and they’re limited to the background you select as apposed to being able to use any texture in any background, and the range of different objects is very limited. It’s just a joke.

As I said above, SSBB is a really good game, but it wouldn’t surprise me if there were many user reviews out there written by people equally if not more pissed off than me. I would have preferred that the game had never made the promise of a stage builder or WiFi setup only to build my hopes up and then send them crashing down with a pox effort.

Imagine everything I say as if it were being spoken to you with the voice of Joe Pesci.

Vote Jamshed.
