Just noticed that there's no mention on this entire website and forum of the Simon Pegg/Nick Frost/Edgar Wright comedy 'Hot Fuzz', which came out last week
As these guys made 'Shaun of the dead', someone out there MUST have some sort of opinion on it.
I saw it the other night and wasn't that impressed.
Anyone else seen it?
None more Black

I'm really looking forward to it, but in America it doesn't come out legally until April 20th (4-20), I might have to use a torrent as I am not sure I can wait that long. But I loved Shaun of the Dead, so I feel obligated to see this one.

I'll agree that it's not quite as good as Shaun of the Dead, but in many ways that film was as brilliant as it was unexpected.
That said, I loved Hot Fuzz, and, to the right individual, could recommend it without hesitation. Duncan, perhaps you're spoiled in England, but much of what passes for comedy film making in the US is lowest common denominator shite. Fat jokes, fart jokes, ethnic minorities and funny accents. It's all such easy humor. Much of the time, the humor isn't even developed. ("Look, the fat lady farted!" Erupt into peals of laughter) It's almost like short hand. You know you are supposed to laugh, so, have at it.
"Norbit", for the love of God?! "Are we done yet?" These movies should trigger a tribunal at the Hague.
Which brings me back to Hot Fuzz. The characters took a bit of time to get to know. The humor was slow burn for a while, interspersed with very nasty, but very funny, killings. (Hence my comment about recommending to the "right" person) But the comic payoff at the end was wonderful. Old, character actor sterotypes firing automatic weapons in Ye Olde English Village! Every buddy cop movie cliche trotted out in the perfect Agatha Christie village setting!
I liked it quite a bit.

Loved it. Very funny, if I wasn't laughing I was smiling. Liked it more than Shaun of the Dead, probably because I like cliched cop movies more than zombie ones.

Have just seen this and want to say that I loved it - I'm dying to see it again and catch all the references that I missed the first time around!
I don't know if I enjoyed it more than 'Shaun of the Dead' - I just felt this one had a happier ending, and I liked that Danny got a chance to do all the action-cop-hero stuff that he loved.
I can't say which is the funniest part, but the one which brought me tears of laughter was the 'Romeo + Juliet' performance (note the + please, 'and' is sooo yesterday, maaan) and the expression on Nick's face as the play went on!
I watched Shaun of the Dead again this weekend. I had taken my son (Sinister, on these threads) to see Hot Fuzz. Afterwards, I told him, "You've got to see Shaun of the Dead, it's soooo much funnier!" You know what, it wasn't. Sure, it was funny, but I think much of the humour was based on the surprise. It was as much about expectations as anything else. Putting them head to head, I think Hot Fuzz was loads funnier.

I wasn't that impressed, but I struggled with it for a specific reason: it felt like two different films. Up until the showdown, I thought it was incredible; then, when the showdown went for what felt like forced, mainstream, blatantly obvious satire, it lost me.
