By "underrated," I mean movies that either didn't make much at the box office and/or got bad reviews. Or just movies that most people have never heard of. If there's a great movie that you've seen that you want someone to know about, i wanna hear about it.

There Are So Many Underated Comedies Im Not Sure How Well These Few Did At Box Office And Stuff But I Think They Are Hidden Classics:

Hudson Hawk - Bruce Willis As You've Never Seen Him B4 Singing Happily As He Robs A Museum Smiler

Welcome To The Jungle - Sean William Scott And The Rock I Thought Would Be A Kool Action Film But It Was Hilarious And An All Round Great Film

Science Mystery Theatre 3000 - Its A Film In A Film With Some Weird Robots And A Dude Like Talking Over The Film Addin Their Own Commentry, Gut Bustingly Funny This Is Just A Great Film!

The CABLE GUY!!!! This film is hilarious and excellent (directed by none other than Ben Stiller) and yet it died on its ass at the box office!!! A real shame! I love it, always have! Always will!

I loved the Cable Guy, and I don't know why people didn't like it that much. Another movie that is a little underated is MOUSEHUNT. It's mostly slapstick comedy but it's hilarious and even Christopher Walken shows up as an exterminator with an abundence of tools and even an ant bomb which goes horribly wrong. Check it out, it's great.

Man, Chris Walken's in everything. I too loved the Cable Guy, and I saw Mousehunt when I was like 7 so I dont remember it too much.

Although it did well on metacritic (80), It seems to me that an underrated comdey is Best in Show.

This is the hilarious Dog Show "fake" documentary that came out a few years ago and I dont remember hearing about it and many people I know haven't seen it but it is very very funny.

I think The Cable Guy was judged before it even came out. I'm not sure if people were ready to see a darker Jim Carrey after his "Carrey Boom" (Dumb and dumber, Ace 1 and 2, The Mask).
Mousehunt was really funny, Lee evans is my favourite British comedian, a sort of English Jim Carrey.

Why dosnt anyone ever mention Dazed and Confused when they talk about great comedies? This movie has it all. It's hillarious, it has a great story line, and to a certain extent it's real! They just don't make comedies like this anymore. Comedies people can actually relate to. People are getting so caught up in the stupid farfetched teen comedies that they're completely forgetting about the classics.

Nice first post. I don't think we have anything against it. I think it's almost up there with Fast Times at Ridgemont High, plus I think it's probably Linklater's best. It's just that there's so much out there. Cool
Maybe we'll get some responses now.

Hudson Hawk (1991) and The Cable Guy (1996) are both wickedly funny. Both are a tad out there with a strange sense of humor that might account for their dismal audience outcomes. Matthew Broderik as a straight guy was also probably a surprise for some in The Cable Guy and the dark nature of Jim Carrey was just enough serious crazy to make some audience members uneasy - it almost crossed from comedy into serious insanity.

Two recent romantic comedies that I felt didn't receive adequate recognition were:

Little Black Book (2004), Connie and Carla (2004), Mostly Martha (2001).

I am probably alone with this one, but I thought "Best in Show" was a great comedy. Watching a bunch of neurotics center their entire, pitiful lives around "dog shows" (yes, I love dogs) was fantastic entertainment.

Boy, you got to carry that weight a long time!

Some other comedies I found very underrated:

Dracula Dead and Loving It (I'm loving it)

Not Another Teen Movie (surely it should receive mor epraise than Scary Movie)

Bubble Boy (think Pee Wee meets Dude Where's My Car)

Neighbors (Dan Aykroyd at his very best, John Belushi goes against-type: excellent)

Two comedies from 1999 that I love, I think they only recieved so-so reviews: "Detroit Rock City" and "Dick". Glad to see another '99 hilarious comedy mentioned elsewhere in this thread- "Election".

I have to second Rev Rikard on "Best in Show" and add to that "A Mighty Wind."

I also really get a kick out of Edward's choice, "Not Another Teen Movie" which is a really funny skewering of some of my fave 80's and 90's teen flicks.

If you're looking for a different storyline that makes you think but laugh at the same time, try I Heart Huckabees. If you're willing to just go along with the movie flow, you'll really like it.

I'm with you, but you are stretching the general public's ability and capacity in hoping that this existentialist comedy could be appreciated by that many people. However, perhaps, if people like you keep sending out the message maybe more will get an opportunity to experience it and begin to experience a much more cerebral comedic sensation.

I'd agree, but I'd like to put this out to anyone who does decide to watch it: watch it. As in, don't be expecting slapstick, up close camera angles, cut and dried humor, etc. The jokes are more subtle, the facial expressions are great, and you'll always laugh about something new each time you watch it.

Out on a Limb starring Matthew Broderick
is a below the radar comedy that can be found in your neighborhood discount rack. It's a silly story and, if you're willing to turn your brain off for a bit, rather funny as well. The "Jims" mistaking the Hallelujah chorus for Iron Maiden is a highlight.
