A day after announcing plans to film the movie version of his Broadway musical The Producers in New York, Mel Brooks is being quoted as saying that he is currently working on the script for a sequel to his 1987 Star Wars spoof Spaceballs that he would like to rush into production. Asked by Playbill magazine when the film is likely to hit the screen, Brooks replied: "Best case scenario: a week before the new Star Wars opens. Worst Case Scenario: a year after the new Star Wars opens." The new Star Wars movie, Revenge of the Sith, is due to open on May 19, 2005. Brooks also indicated that he will appear in the sequel (although, he said, he won't have a role in The Producers). "It wouldn't feel right to have anyone else play Yoghurt, and the first one was the best experience I've had making a movie since Blazing Saddles," he said. [From Daily Studio Briefing]
I'm so fired up for this movie!! I loved the original, and Blazzing Saddles is my all-time favorite comedy. I hope he gets it going so it's out before the 3rd crapola Lucas prequel.

Hmmm...Spaceballs II: The Search for more money? Interesting... I really liked the original, even though some jokes were hit and misss, and I actually think a sequel is a cool idea. Maybe we'll see the return of Rick Moranis? Lets hope the film doesn't get jammed...(whatever that means)
Nice! Granted, I have no idea how well the movie will do with people who weren't alive for the first set of movies (and who might not "get" Mel Brooks), but I'm fired up.

Wow! Finally, a new Mel Brooks comedy! But, has he lost his edge as hes aged (a la Woody Allen). And, also, "Spaceballs", as funny as it is, is definately not his best movie, and sequels to comedies are rarely as good as the first one, so why doesnt Mr. Brooks just write an original script?

Thank you, thank you, 'ppreciate it. You know, I had to litterally comb the desert to find these puns. I guess the power of the Schwarz compelled me...
This makes me a little sad. Blazing Saddles, Young Frankenstien, and Spaceballs are all classics but Brooks hasn't done much of anything worth talking about for some time. I suspect this sequel will be geared for baby boomers and 10 year olds only (just like the Star Wars prequels).
Well, I actually really liked Dracula: Dead and Loving it, I think it's hilarious, but you have to switch your brain off for about 1h30 to really enjoy it! "Children of the night!...What a mess they make!" (close-up on a pile of dung)
I liked that guy from Ally McBeal's "I did no'" about the bug but it was one of his weakest films overall. I mean, it starred that guy from Wings and a way past his prime Leslie Neilson (Canadian though). Blazing Saddles surely will hold up as his classic.
Spaceballs II could actually be pretty funny considering all the new source material Brooks will have to make fun of thanks to Lucas' 2 awful prequels!
"If it were beneficial, their father would produce children already circumcised from their mother. Rather, the true circumcision in spirit has become profitable in every respect." -Jesus, from the Gospel Of Thomas
Agreed, and even if its reused material... it will most definitely be better than our recent comedies of that sort (Scary Movie 3 *shudders*) We need some good laughs, especially at Lucas, who is pissing away a perfectly good series.
OMG, I f*ing love Spaceballs...I can't predict a hit or miss on this one. But, if Brooks decides to go with this I hope the second movie isn't bad like a lot of sequels I've seen.
o-<-</ thats me, skateboarding!
