Best comedy of all time in your opinion:

My favourite is This is Spinal Tap followed very closely by Monty Python, Life of Brian.

I'd have to say "Stripes", followed somewhat closely by Caddyshack & Animal House. Sadly, when I first saw Spinal Tap in 8th grade on cable, I didn't realize it was a "mockumentary" until about an hour into it. Great movie.

I adore Spinal Tap and the Monty Python movies ...

One of my all time favorites is "The Jerk."

I always found the Exorcist to be quite funny!

Monty Python's Meaning of Life easily takes the cake for me; IMO it's the best Python movie by a long shot.

Caddyshack is like a fine wine. It's gets better with age, each experience leads to a new discovery, and it'll make you giggle like a little girl-- especially if you're stoned.

Once again, I'm not trying to imply that anyone is wrong; maybe I should know how to use internet-friendly acronyms, such as IMO or IMHO, but I just say what I think. If I'm abusing the rules, go ahead and tell me. No biggie. When I was under 20, my brother and I went, repeatedly, to a double bill of Monty Python & the Holy Grail and What's Up, Tiger Lily? So now, it's hard for me to believe that any MP or WA movies are better than those, especially since I watched them all, in order, at the theatre. I will say though that A Fish Called Wanda actually seems funnier than any MP movie, and I probably think that Manhattan and Hannah and Her Sisters are the best flicks directed by the Woodman. Maybe, Play it Again, Sam has more laughs, but what did you expect since Bogart is the greatest actor/ personality of all time, with apologies to JC and the Beatles.

I completely agree with Holy Grail and What's Up Tiger Lily?! Two of my favorite comedies for sure. A Fish Called Wanda is excellent as well. The Jerk is a good choice. This is a much more difficult question than I first imagined. Best is too subjective, to somewhat explain my earlier posting of the Exorcist. Favorite might be a more appropriate topic here or better yet - favorites! I think I'll ponder more on this and post later.

I'm going to go ahead and say that Pulp Fiction is the funniest movie I've ever seen. Though many would not consider it comedy, you can't deny the fact that every scene in the film provides hearty laughs. Seriously, I don't think I've ever laughed equally as much during any other movie except for the Chaplin movies.

RayRay, "Stripes"??? Really??? Eeker

For me, the best comedy ever is either: Airplane!, Dumb and Dumber or Street Fighter (unintentionally hilarious movie) Wink

I know! And I can't believe some critics said it wasn't a funny film! It's hilarious! Even though I have to admit that most of the jokes in the 1st one were reused here.
I love the scene in which Ace say to a rich dude: "And you must be...the Monopoly guy!...Hey: Thanks for the free parking!" before punching him in the face etc... that whole scene is excellent.
As well as the " I represent the princess" scene in the Watchootoo camp and the Metallic Rhinoceros scene.
Brilliant. Big Grin
