In my opinion the best comedies were spoofs. Anything from the Monty Python troupe as well as the Airplane, Naked Gun, and Hot Shots series. I was never a fan of Mel Brooks though. Of the non-spoof comedies, nothing beats the Coen brothers.

WE should have a black comedy thread (that means comedies about DEATH!) and an Ed Wood Appreciation thread, so let's do something about that!
On current topic, Ed Wood has made several unintentional comedies. I'll plug some others besides "Plan 9": "Bride of the Monster", "Night of the Ghouls" (aka "Revenge of the Dead"), "Jail Bait", and the ultimate, "Glen or Glenda?" (aka "I Changed My Sex".) There's several others, but I'll save those for the Eddie Appreciation thread in directors soon enough.

A perfect example of a black comedy is Rob Zombie's "House of 1000 Corpses." It isn't really supposed to be scary, just funny. Another popular one is the "Chucky" series, which I despise, because it is just supposed to be a joke.
For some reason my brain isn't working right now, but I think that "Pulp Fiction" could get mentioned as a "Black" comedy.

"Harold and Maude", "Kind Hearts and Coronets", "Murder By Death", "The Bride Wore Black", I'll add some more when I start the thread, if somebody doesn't beat me to it.
