Probably the weirdest film ever made, Johnny Depp and Benicio Del Toro (as well as a few cameos from Cameron Diaz and Tobey Maguire) starred in this crazy film about 2 guys who go on a drug rampage in Las Vegas... Razzer

A film you either love or hate.
Personnaly, I adore this film, everything about it but there is 1 thing I cant quite put my finger on.....

WHAT THE HELL IS IT ABOUT???
Is it about America, the American dream, druguse in the US, the 60s??? Confused
Help!

I don't know about weirdest film ever made! I can think of many weirder films, especially considering this is a literary adaptation. I did not like this movie the first time I watched it, I actually turned it off when Depp and Del Toro are checking into the hotel. I knew I was just in a bad mood though and tried again at a later date, with great success! This has developed into a favorite movie of mine, and a mainstay for drunken evenings when I need to watch something familiar yet funny!

You should read the book too, Edward to help you understand more. It's by Hunter S. Thompson (duh). He wrote a lot of journalistic narratives about, basically, American culture in different time periods.

This happens to be about drug culture and Las Vegas, he has also written books about the Hell's Angels, the '80s, politics and other subjects.

If you're interested in this, also read "The Elecctric Kool-Aid Acid Test and other books by Tom Wolfe ... these detail ken Kesey and his Merry Pranksters and their acid tests, which were basically primitive raves where acid was the primary drug rather than ecstasy. Really interesting looks at drug culture in the 60s, and they provide a wider context for understanding "Fear and Loathing"

And yeah, there are much weirder movies. Try watching "Naked Lunch" sometime. Smiler

you have to read the book to figure that one out. the movie covers the plot but leaves out a lot of the heart. and it's probably the funniest book i've ever read.

I actually thought the movie put the book into perspective, but thats probably just me, the movie also stops about half way through the book. The hitch hiker scene was hilarious.

It's part of the wacky drug trilogy that includes Naked Lunch, A Scanner Darkly, and Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.

All are [ironically] novel adaptations by three novelists who are drug addicts.

All three movies together provide a sumptous viewing menu.

Jules: Normally, both your asses would be dead as fucking fried chicken, but you happen to pull this shit while I'm in a transitional period so I don't wanna kill you, I wanna help you. But I can't give you this case, it don't belong to me. Besides, I've already been through too much shit this morning over this case to hand it over to your dumb ass.
