I just got the gorgeous new Criterion edition of this movie, and thought I'd start the topic on it. Quote, fawn, comment, or criticize here.

Definitely one of the greatest movies ever. Great characters, great lines, great tunes, great cars. My favorite character is, of course, Wooderson.

That's what I love about those high school girls. I get older, they stay the same age.

Well listen, you ought to ditch the two geeks you're in the car with now and get in with us, but that's all right. We'll worry about that later.

Wooderson may be one of the best characters in a comedy, ever. Certainly one of my favorite films of any genre. Everytime it's on, even edited on TV, I'm sucked in.

I also love:

"all right, all right, all right".

"You got any smoke? No. It'd be much cooler if you did..."

It's amazing how many people in that movie ended up doing other stuff and becoming pretty big: Joey Lauren Adams, Parker Posey, Rory Cochran, Affleck. Marisi Ribisi (the redhead with the nerds) is married to Beck. And one of the nerds (the blond with the glasses) was one of the original stars of Rent.

Dazed and Confused was one of those movies that came out at exactly the right time. 70's music was hitting the scene and making a comeback. Mid-seventies muscle cars were showing up in driveways across America. Every decade and its styles and tastes seem to go through 3 phases.

1 - Current/Popular
2 - Expired/Uncool
3 - Reborn/Popular again

At a time when the styles and music of the 80's was being ridiculed, the 70's came back in full force and the music of Zeppelin, Sabbath, and Rush became cool again. This movie hit the mark in regards to this rebirth and almost single-handedly made Aerosmith hip again. I can't watch it 3 times a week like I used to but when I do dust it off and give it a view, I am reminded of many good times and great friends.

Since I first saw this movie, I've always wanted to walk into a rec center in slow motion while "Hurricane" by Bob Dylan plays.

I never really liked "Hurricane" before Dazed. Now it's one of my favorite Dylan songs, and mainly because of that scene.
