I agree with you. DiCaprio was great in that movie, and I think it's the first time I've seen him in anything where he's really impressed me as an actor. Wahlberg was a hoot, but I'm not sure how much of that was just the way that character was written. BTW, did you know that Dennis Leary was originally supposed to play that part?

Actually my friend, Ray Liotta was the "original" choice for Dignam's role, but he turned it down. Then it was offered to Dennis Leary, who turned it down for whatever reason and then Markie Mark came in. I completely agree with you about DiCaprio. He has never impressed me, although I love the way both he and Johnny Depp acted in What's Eating Gilbert Grape?, but in this movie he knocked my socks off. Plus him and Wahlberg have utterly impeccable accents. Wahlberg was hilarious, tough and rude, he was great and what a poignant ending huh? By the way, I heard a bunch of the actors that were in the film, except for Nicholson and DiCaprio, were not the first choices. We were lucky that Walhberg was finally chosen though.
