I generally like the Christopher Guest comedies and BEST IN SHOW was the middle one of three. WAITING FOR GUFFMAN was the first and I feel the best of three. So, if you like BEST IN SHOW, which I did like but didn't love like GUFFMAN, I'd recommend that.
The most recent of the three was THE MIGHTY WIND, which Gilliam tried to do for folk music what he did for community theatre (GUFFMAN) and dog shows (SHOW). I thought THE MIGHTY WIND fell flat and was a big drop off from GUFFMAN and SHOW.
The best part of SHOW, I thought, was the absolutely hilarious turn by Fred Willard as the bumptious color commentator. I thought that Willard stole the movie and his performance in SHOW is one of my all time favorites.
One interesting curiosity is that Harry Shearer, who is part of Guest's stock company, tried his hand at directing a film in the GUFFMAN-SHOW-WIND vein. I forget the name of it (I didn't see it) but it tried to parody the Bohemian Grove, where all the plutocrats meet. It received scathing reviews and opened and closed in a week when it received its commercial run.

I am elated to find someone else that finds this movie hilarious. I caught some flack from my office staff for liking it so much I bought it. Neurotic people whose world revolves around their dogs? How can that not be funny? My favorite scene, the loss of the "bee toy" by one of the great yuppie couples on screen!
Boy, you got to carry that weight a long time!
