This is that niche in comedy comprised of Airplane! and the host of films that followed suite from Naked Gun to Scary Movie. In my experience, most people either hate this type of humor or love it. Personally, I fall into the later category. I could watch these movies all day long. I felt this type of comedy needed a thread all to itself because it really has revolutionized the way we watch comedies. This type of humor spawned from the slapstick/self depracating humor made famous by Charlie Chaplin, the Marx brothers and the Three Stooges. It was taken to another lever of side-spitting comedies thanks in large part to the Zucker brothers. What do you guys think of this type of comedy? If you like it, what are your favorites? Here are mine:
Airplane Naked Gun Airplane II Hot Shots! Mafia (not great but funny none-the-less) Space Balls Kentucky Fried Movie

Apparently he has adopted your philosophy as well for he is in just about every direct-to-video spoof movie out there....2001: A Space Travesty, anyone?

Of all the ones listed, "The Groove Tube" is definitely the first. But what about EARLY Mel Brooks and Woody Allen movies? Do they count? "What's Up, Tiger Lily?" seems to fit the bill, as well as "Take the Money and Run" and "Bananas." Then again, am I stretching to include Brooks' "The Producers", "The Twelve Chairs", "Blazing Saddles" and "Young Frankenstein", all of which predate (or at least, "tie") "The Groove Tube", which was a year before "Monty Python and the Holy Grail"? This is a pretty pumped-up topic, unless I'm looking at it from the fogey's perspective, but then, it's EVEN more pumped up!

Probably my favorite spoof movie (you've all covered most of the biggies so far) was a movie that often gets listed as one of the worst ever...but I loved it. It's called Brain Donors, and is a spoof/take-off of Night at the Opera, with John Turturro as Groucho.

Very glad to see "Amazon women of the moon" mentioned!!! This movie never got the credit it deserved. The spoof on old 50's scifi movie is one of the best I have ever seen. Just glad to see someone mention it

actually I loved space balls, in fact, I loved it more than starwars! I found this about spoofs. The Mell Brooks movies didn't get enough mention here - I loved Brian Super Star... Naked Gun I wonder what Leslie Nielsen and Charlie Chaplin would have come up with if they had a chance to work together
