I will give you the most under-rated comedy of all time, getting barely any to none TV play, and having people quote it, not even knowing what it's from;

UHF!

THE funniest movie I've ever seen in my whole life. Weird Al at his best, see it!

check out an oldie called THe Court Jester starring Danny Kaye. Humor was different back in the fifties.
I agree about The Gods Must Be Crazy. Great film and the scenery was ace too.

I agree that those movies are well-worth watching. Maybe they're underrated because of "assumptions", but the people who have watched them, like them. (I hope Cool)

Not sure if it's underrated or not, but it's certainly not thought of as a comedy classic. Nevertheless, Fletch is one of my favourite comedies. Cracks me up everytime I watch it.

The bring back Chevy Chase campaign starts here!

A Prairie Home Companion. It's heaven for those of you who enjoy subtle puns.

Two of my favorite not-so-guilty pleasures are Spies Like Us and The Three Amigos.

Murder By Death and Clue are also great films that tickle my funny bone. (Not sure how the former fared, but I know the latter was a commercial/critical failure when it was released.)

Perhaps my favorite underrated comedy of all time, however? That's easy! YELLOWBEARD.
Mainly for the brilliant cameos. (In particular, Peter Cook's subtlely hilarious performance.)

I have to admit that I have repeatedly enjoyed this Chevy Chase movie and I have yet to see another movie that resembles the subtle and Chevy's not so subtle comedy antics. [Also, there are scenes of a geographical nature that I have actually seen or have been acquainted with]. I am never adverse to seeing reruns on television. There is something classic in regards to this movie for me.

I'm right there with both of you concerning Fletch. I still quote from it all the time, especially "I'll have a steak sandwich, and a steak sandwich." Classic.

I have to say that Kiss Kiss Bang Bang was one of the funniest movies I have seen recently and no one talks about how funny it is. Val Kilmer plays a hysterical role as "Gay Perry".

The outtakes on the DVD are pretty funny too. In the scene where Kilmer reveals to Robert Downey Jr. that he just got his acting gig because Colin Farrell wanted too much money, all of a sudden Kilmer adopts a thick Irish accent and says, "I'm Colin Farrell, and I'm a drunk." It's quite hilarious.

I'd say Bowfinger.

Some people pass it off as stupid, but when stupid is done by really smart people, it can be a great thing. This is one of the only Eddie Murphy movies I've ever enjoyed. I also think Steve Martin is an underrated writer.

The movie is a gem. It's got the little funny scenes (the spoof of scientology; called "Mind Head") and the big, classic, comic scenes (Eddie Murphy running across the freeway for a scene, thinking they're all "stunt drivers" and the parking garage scene).

Check it out.

Black Sheep, a lot of people didn't like this movie and I loved it. David Spade and Chris Farley made a great comedy pair.

A few more comedies that still seem to have been overlooked include:

The Matador (2005) with Pierce Brosnan as an assassin who is starting to have doubts about himself.

Prime (2005) about a therapist (performed by Meryl Streep) whose son is dating one her female clients (Uma Thurman).

Music and Lyrics (2007) in one the year's best romantic comedies that went under the radar at the 2007 Oscars for best song and lyrics.

In my opinion, the MOST underrated movie of all time is a very recent one, meet the spartans.

I went to see this movie today and found it absoloutley hilarious. One of the funniest films I have ever seen without a doubt. I'm not a huge fan of 'spoof' films, but this was as good as they get.

This movie stars everyone from happy feet to paris hilton with a hunchback. From Rocky balboa, to Simon, Paula and Randy from American Idol.

This movie has a hell of a lot of terrible reviews even on this site, but I absoloutely adore this film!!!!

While I haven't seen the movie and may never see it. It depends. But from the trailers I saw, I can believe how the movie if the trailers reflected most of the movie could be a good parody of current action movies as such. I not surprised by your comment. Parody is hard to pull off. I'm willing to give you the benefit of the doubt on this one.

Underrated? This? I dunno about that. What do these things have in common with gladiator and battle flicks? I can't stand this recent trend of spoof movies. I normally LOVE 'em ("The Naked Gun", "Hot Shots", "Hexed", "Airplane!", etc.), but the creators don't seem to understand that making pop culture references isn't really all that funny when it has nothing to do with the type of movie genre they're making fun of. There are lots of gladiator-type flicks they could draw inspiration from for parody (same with the other "parodies" they've made so far), but these "writers" (and I use the term very loosely) seem to always fall back on the tabloids, movies that had NOTHING to do with the genre and primetime television. Those jokes are so easy to make that they just aren't that funny to me. So THESE specific movies just aren't underrated. They're waaaaaaay overrated. Way, way overrated. I mean, WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY OVERRATED! This is nothing against TomBrandon111, I'm just tired of these friggin' movies being made. They really give the spoof movie a bad name. Really.

Bowfinger is a good one. Found it in the $5 bin at hell-mart.

Three Amigos is my choice. Something about that movie cracks me up.
