I did fit 8 hardcovers in a paper grocery bag once. That is, before the bottom fell through. Among the steals ($2 for the 8 books): W. Shaxper's (they spelled it like that when he was alive  ) Henry V, Franz K.'s Trial, and The Aeneid.
