My basic objection to religion is not that it isn't true; I like plenty of things that aren't true. It's that religion grants its adherents malign, intoxicating and morally corrosive sensations. -Philip Pullman

"To Hell and Back" Audie Murphy

Mr. Murphy was the most decorated Allied combatant in World War Two. He was also an okay movies star later. THe book is excellent and the movie is good as well. He stars in it. Heck of a fellow.

The City of Dreadful Night by James 'Bysshe Vanolis' Thompson.
It's so good, indulge me a little quote...

O melancholy Brothers, dark, dark, dark!
O battling in black floods without an ark!
O spectral wanderers of unholy Night!
My soul hath bled for you these sunless years,
With bitter blood-drops running down like tears:
Oh dark, dark, dark, withdrawn from joy and light

Oh, could I feel as I have felt, or be what I have been,
Or weep as I could once have wept, o'er many a vanished scene;
As springs in deserts found seem sweet, all brackish though they be,
So, midst the withered waste of life, those tears would flow to me.
