I avoided googling. Surprise me PRG...
Oh, could I feel as I have felt, or be what I have been, Or weep as I could once have wept, o'er many a vanished scene; As springs in deserts found seem sweet, all brackish though they be, So, midst the withered waste of life, those tears would flow to me.

Right!. I know Gass, but I haven't read that one. Whither a quote?

Ok, check. Another one for the list. Never read it. Never heard of Gass.

Daniel and Peachy are men. Something in that last sentence is something similar to something in the title. It's a "real" man's story!!

OK. Having tracked down the book and rereading it, I will admit that I paraphrased the quote, yet my "quote" actually gives more information than the real one which doesn't use Peachey's name. Yeah, I also misspelled Peach ey's nickname. Probably the only other clue I can give is that it's assumed the author himself is the book's third main character, although his name is never mentioned at all.

Too busy compiling your top 100 and slaving away for China? And I'm not hearing any bells, mark. Unless PRG comes back and puts it up (I bet PRG knows ), looks like you've stumped us.

There's something about the rhythm of the words that bounces some small ball, but I can't quite catch the damn thing in my minds eye long enough to read its title....
