I'd call it a political thriller, and it was written in the 1960s. It does have quite a few moments of satire though.

The Manchurian Candidate? I'm just guessing, of course. There's no satire in that, is there? Honestly, I've never read it.

Yes, this novel was made into one of my favorite non-English-language films. Most of the cast were French.

Nope, couldn't have remembered the book title if my life depended on it. Also, I never read the book, so, I'll demur. I think mark can honestly be said to have stumped us all, so he gets another go-round.
