There are a number of books that, while I read them, I listened exclusively to one cd. Does anyone else do that? Here are the ones I remember.

"It" - Stephen King: I listened to Live's album "Throwing Copper" while reading this long novel in the sometime during my early teens.

"Peralandra" and "The Hideous Strength" - C.S. Lewis: While reading these final two books in Lewis's Space Trilogy, I listened to Holst's "The Planets"

"Into the Wild" - John Krakauer: This may have been the most perfect fit. I listened to Cat Stevens' Greatest Hits. Songs like Wild World, Oh Very Young, Father and Son and really just about every other track could have been on a soundtrack for a movie based on the book.

"The Rasputin File" - Edvard Radzinsky: I listened to Live's "The Distance to Here" while reading this book. Both the book and cd are very spiritual and haunting.

These are my best matches; the ones that when I hear a song off the corresponding album, it can bring back powerful memories and images from the book.

Wilco? I didn't know Wilco had a book.

Here's another one I think was a good match.

"The Devils" - Dostoevesky: I listened to "Natural Mystic" by Bob Marley. "There's a natural mystic blowing through the air. If you listen carefully now you will hear." The first song fits the tone of the book quite well.

I don't purposfully put a specific cd on when I read but certain songs remind me of specific books all the time.

When reading science fiction, I often put on the Blade Runner s'track.

Wanna hear an odd choice? I played "The Magic Position" through my entire reading of Crime and Punishment...

having read Crime & Punishment, and knowing some Patrick Wolf, it is indeed odd, but what would life be if we all read Bridget jones diary, and listened to Dido?, or some other predictable combo...

come to think of it...mine's pretty predictable.

If I have ever exclusively listened to one album while reading a book, I don't remember what it was. Most of the time if I'm reading, I listen to classical. That choice of genre is probably pretty predictable.

Another incongruous choice I have made was playing Battles' "Mirrored" all through reading R Graves' "I, Claudius".

Actually, since I Claudius is mostly about war and sex, Battles ain't a bad choice.

Double post for me. It would be interesting to market an album and a book together, no? Like, make a "bundle deal" for selling music and books that go together well.

Well I got no fancy way to flair this, but I find that listening to the soundtrack to the Lord Of the Rings adds an interesting effect to most high fantasy novels. One series in particular, is the Wheel Of Time by Robert Jordan. Ironically, I have yet to actually try this out on the actual Lord The Rings series.

So, Zatoichi, why don't you try it, at least a bit, with Tolkien? Or, at least, tell us what's going on with your spine in the combo you mentioned. Try to play the hairs on your head and the nerves in your back as a musical instrument!
