Folks,

At what point do you think that the very large categories of "Nonfiction" and "Fiction" should be replaced with smaller, more specific categories? Confused

For example, I prefer certain types of fiction (sci-fi) and non-fiction (philosophy, biographies). I find it difficuly sometimes to to wade through all of the reviews to find books in my preferred genres.

I would love to see smaller categories, though of course I know this takes a lot of hard work and dedication from the Metacritic staff.

Thanks for the great site! Smiler

Why am I not surprised that someone whose screen name is Aristotle wants to further subdivide groups into smaller categories? Wink

Seriously, the Editors can add categories fairly easily BUT we haven't had much traffic in books, and I'm not sure that adding new Forums will help.

But, you could start threads in particular Forums for the books you're into...we already have a fairly active thread in Non-Fiction on Philosophy. You could start a General Sci_fi and General Biography thread in Fiction and Non-Fiction, respectively, and see what happens.

If the traffic picks up, adding new Forums would be a good idea. We've added several in Music in the last few weeks for ease of discussion. But we have a lot more traffic in music than in books right now.

Ha Ha! Good point philosopherEric.

Any ideas why the Books section receives less traffic than other areas of the site? Perhaps book lovers are less concerned with group consensus.

Anyway, I think posting a new thread is an excellent way for me to procrastinate on my dissertation. Thanks for the idea!

I will work on a sci-fi thread and send it along.

Books gets less traffic for at least one good reason: it's the newest of the Forums.

What's your dissertation on? Are you a philosopher? We've got two "professional" philosophers (read: someone who gets paid, as a grad student or a professor) on the boards, myself and keylimetrev. I assume you might be from the screen name...
