One I can think of off-hand, which I use a fair bit is www.complete-review.com. It operates in a similiar way to metacritic, with lists of books graded A, B, etc. Not huge, nowhere near comprehensive, but you will discover some extraordinary books. Good luck.

Truly, mark, the admiration flows both ways. By the age of 14, he has burned through every "important" book that I had ever read until the age of 21 or 22. He hasn't read Conrad, Hugo, or the russians yet, but, other than that, I'm running out of recommendations for him!

Appreciate the suggestion, prg. My own experience with NA lit is pretty slim. I'm sure he'll find his way back to this thread, and I'll let him look into it.
He's working through Calvino now, and I've never read him. I think Barth, Pynchon, Rushdie are tough reads for anyone, though I've enjoyed many of their works.
