I can't remember who actually wrote this book, but I remember in highschool reading it and contemplating how much acid he must have taken during his lifetime. Overall a strange and wonderful masterpiece.

Sorry. Lewis Carroll.
The first book was hashish, the second Opium.

One thing's for sure. The U.S. government hadn't invented LSD yet, but I don't remember hash or opium in "Dreamchild", although Disney's version of "Alice in Wonderland" implies that the animators had all three available but didn't share any with poor Walt!

"DreamChild" is a film from 1985 about Rev. Charles Dodgsen (Lewis Carroll) and the girl who inspired Alice. It starred Ian Holm and Coral Browne and had some Jim Henson creatures during some recreations of scenes from Carroll's books. Carroll was shown to be far-superior artistically than he was socially, but what else is new? It's been awhile since I've seen it, but I don't remember the human characters using drugs, although I could easily be wrong.

Yeah, like they're gonna show drug references in a kids movie. Anyhoo, let's get off the drugs, an' talk about the book. Or some uvver book.

The worst thing about all of the books was all of the changes in size for Alice. I know that she was supposed to be a little girl, but just eat random things because they say "Eat me" what is up with that, it seemed like a sort of shortcut for Carroll. For some reason, I am having diffiulty deciphering what came from which Alice and Wonderland book, but I think that the best part of "Through the looking glass" was the croquet match with flamingo mallets.

Like The Wizard of Oz and Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, I've always found Alice to be a children's story with aspects more creepy and terrifying than children should be exposed to. I found AIW really scary as a kid.

Alice is not creepy. She's a puzzle.

I'm welcoming you to the Forums, Emanuel. I hope you enjoy it here. This was the first thread started at the Books Forum (it's our newest section), so the thread starter entitled it "Welcome!!!!!" At the General Discussions, we have an "Introductions" thread, if you'd like to share something personal about yourself. I'll see you around the site!

Sorry but the croquet match is from "wonderland" not "Through the looking glass"
