When Sin City, Batman Begins, and War of the Worlds are the only films that come close to approaching even the loosest of Top 10 lists it is safe to say '05 has been quite the shite year.
Hmm...well, this has been a crappy year for big Hollywood flicks, but it usually takes a little while for the good ones to come out of the woodworks. Especially the independent ones, and the most artistically strong big Hollywood ones generally wait till December anyway to get oscars.
I haven't really seen many movies this year, but I generally don't see movies until I'm awfully sure they're going to be good, so I don't see very many movies.
So..my top 4 (Out of 4) list would be..
Batman Begins Hitchhiker's Guide Enron Star Wars
On my list to see are Land of the Dead, Sin City, Kung Fu Hustle, and a handful of indie films such as Downfall.

In no particular order: The Best Thus Far: The Upside of Anger, War of the Worlds, Crash, My Summer of Love, Sin City (visionary and visually stunning).
Close, So Close: Mr. & Mrs. Smith (if it hadn't descended into a pyrotechnic free-for-all in its last 40 minutes and had taken it's War of the Roses with grenades conceit to it's logical conclusion it would have made my Best list.)
Worse: Sin City (of course it was also misognistic and a narrative mess), A Lot Like Love (actually a lot like When Harry Met Sally... and that had charatcers you actualy liked), House of Wax (simply for keeping Paris Hilton employed).
And finally movies I am looking forward to: Elizabethtown (Cameron Crowe has yet to make an outright failure and this is his first original script since his masterpiece Almost Famous); Peter Jackson's King Kong (if you are not looking forward to this you shouldn't be in this forum... hell, you should check to see if you have a pulse); The Corpse Bride and Willy Wonka (a double shot of Tim Burton - and not just Tim Burton but Burton given free-reign. Feels like Christmas).
These are all the films ive seen in the cinema this year in my order so far.
1.The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou (5*) 2.Million Dollar Baby (5*) 3.Sin City (5*) 4.Batman Begins (5*) 5.Kingdom of Heaven (4*) 6.The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (3*) 7.Star Wars Episode 3: Revenge of the Sith (2*)
I am going to see War of the Worlds this week, which i hear is very good as well. I still havnt seen Sideways, i really need to soon!
Got a Good Feeling!

1.Sin City 2.War of the Worlds 3.Batman Begins 4.Kingdom of Heaven 5.Fantastic Four
The summer is definitely not over, and I am looking forward toseeing Stealth, and Charlie and The Chocolate Factory, despite bad marketing with the overly cheesy TV ads. The Theatrical trailer for C&TCF is much better. Maybe Depp won't be so weird after all...

I haven't seen that many movies, so I will just list them and them in order, then say what I think will stay on the list.
1. War of the Worlds 2. The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy 3. Batman Begins 4. Robots 5. Be Cool 6. Coach Carter 7. Constantine 8. Kingdom of Heaven 9. The Interpreter 10 Hitch -Amityville Horror
I am hoping that I can change the last half of my top ten the ones within five are on the list for sure, but I would like to see "Be Cool" at around 10.

A number of people have proposed "King Kong" as a possible award-winning movie to look out for. Looking at the trailer however and even the nature of the movie, I feel that it's going to be an uphill struggle for this movie to be nominated for the big awards.
My predictions for nominations for either the Golden Globes or Oscars:
[Movies released] Crash Sin City Charlie and the Chocolate Factory The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou
[Still to be released] The Brother's Grimm The Chronicles of Naria Memoirs of a Geisha Saraband A History of Violence Elizabethtown The New World

Crash seems to be left out of most lists here even though its rated quite high on this site at 69 roughly equivalent to Cinderella Man (69), Charlie and The Chocolate Factory (72), Batman Begins (70), Hustle and Flow (68).
Crash by its very nature would seem to have a lock on a Golden Globe nomination as well as most of the regional awards. When it comes to the Oscars, it's a little on the dark side of even Traffic (2000).
