Here are my top 5 movies of 2005 so far. If you want to read my reviews of these movies, you can find them in random places around the forums:

1. Sin City
2. Kingdom of Heaven
3. Kung Fu Hustle
4. Millions

5. Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith

I put Star Wars a further down because in my opinion, numbers 1 through 4 are all almost equally good, and Star Wars doesn't compare.

Sin City is my number two, right behind Revenge of the Sith.

Wow, Mark, you Really! liked "Sith"...did you not feel it to be very cliched and thin as hell? Although my number one (Sin City) was pretty thin as well. Hmmm. This year has been rather unimpressive...

So far, it seems that many good movies will come out during the summer, "War of the Worlds," "King Kong," "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory." There are some really good ones coming out soon.

On another note, I am rather curious why "Madagascar" is getting such mediocre reviews. I thought that it had potential to the best animated film of the year...

I actually think that Revenge of the Sith and Sin City are better than all the movies last year, except for The Incredibles. I've never bought into George Lucas-bashing or critical overrating of various "full, uncliched" flicks.

I'm gonna have to add Crash to the number 5 spot on my list, bumping off Revenge of the Sith. Sorry Mark, but I truthfully only thought that Sith was a decent movie. Crash on the other hand, though lacking on certain aspects, was a very good film.

That's fine, but you could always go back and watch it and tell me I'm RIGHT!

Hmm.. Is this a list of favourites, or a list of what's really 'best'?

If i had to rank the BEST movies i've seen this year, Cinderella Man would be at the top. However, it wouldn't be my favourite movie.

Ah well, i'll go with favourites:

1. Star Wars: Episode III
2. Sin City
3. Ong Bak: The Thai Warrior
4. Kung Fu Hustle
5. Assault on Precinct 13

With "The Jacket" JUST NARROWLY missing the top 5.

And Best:

1. Cinderella Man
2. Sin City
3. The Chorus
4. Assault on Precinct 13
5. Star Wars: Episode III

"Crash" is hugely overrated, pretentious tripe. "Kingdom of Heaven" was had some great parts, the the sum of the whole just didn't add up to a good movie. Orlando Bloom's character was to unbelievable.

Hey - just joining the forum.
So far:
1. Nobody Knows - Kore-eda
2. Millions - Boyle
3. Tropical Malady - Weerasethakul
4. Murderball - Shapiro
5. Oldboy - Park

I'm heavy on the Asian films so far this year - caught them all at festivals last year, but I haven't seen anything yet that did as much for me as these five.

Wow that's pretty impressive list there, I really haven't seen much on any of these films. Goes to show you what ads for movies will do when they are shoved down your throat.

1. Sin City
2. Kung Fu Hustle
3. Kingdom of Heaven
4. Millions
5. Crash

I recently saw Revenge of The Sith and found it quite entertaining, yet not a very good movie. Only mildly better than the previous 2.

This year is turning out to be a pretty cool year for film, in my opinion. And we still have Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, War of the Worlds, the Corpse Bride and other cool films to come our way!

1/ Sin City *****/5
2/ Batman Begins ****1/2 /5
3/ Sideways ****1/2 /5
4/ Melinda and Melinda ****/5
5/ 2046 ****/5

Also in my list are Star Wars Episode III (clearly the best of the prequels), the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (best British film in years), the Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou (underrated little gem)and A Very Long Engagement (best French film in a while)

Have you all heard of a movie called "Hustle and Flow"? I saw a preview for it before Crash and it said that it was a big Sundance hit, but I hadn't heard when it will be released...

I beleive it was, because it already took it's turn through the Oscars if I remember right. Wasn't it in contention for writing at one point? I don't think it won though.

Yeah, Sideways was released in like February in England. I consider it as a 2005 film even though those living in America don't since it was released earlier there.
