I apologize for the placement of this specific movie here. It's quite difficult to define what genre to put this movie (comedy, drama, action, adventure, thriller). Nevertheless, The Matador with its triple twisted ending (one of the few movies to have successfully accomplished this feat) is a brilliant blend of comedy, wry humor with authentic, intimate performances along with strong dramatic elements and drama thrilling tension along with way. Along with Nicholas Cage (in Lord of War) and Anthony Hopkins (as Hannibal Lector), Pierce Brosnan portrays a sympathetic bad guy in this deliciously fun (always much more difficult genre than drama) and compelling movie. One of my top five movies of 2005.

I definitely agree with you. This is probably my favorite Pierce Brosnan role ever. Greg Kinnear was super as well. I was really pleasantly surrised by this film. I had heard some good buzz, but this time it was warranted. I recommend seeing it if you haven't.

Not to gloat or anything or maybe I am, but I'd like to risk my reputation a little bit by offering up another almost unknown Pierce Brosnan movie, one of his earliest films that I consider one my personal favorite movies of all time - Nomads (1986) - released almost 20 years ago. This movie has Pierce Brosnan portraying an almost unrecognizable Brosnan as a European anthropologist who uncovers an urban mysterious and brings a medical doctor within its dark spell played by Lesley Ann Down. This is one of the most unusual, haunting movies of all time.

I absolutely loved this movie. The chemistry between Brosman and Kinnear just puts a smile on your face. I was very surprised by this film, and it was one of my favorites of 2005.
Go check it out if you haven't already.

I'd still be interested in your assessment of Mr. Brosnan's performance in Nomads (1986).
