Has anyone heard this new soul/hip-hop collaboration between Danger Mouse and Cee-Lo? Their first effort, St. Elsewhere, has already been released in the U.K. and I'm not sure if it's in stores already in the U.S. (And WHY it was released in the U.K. first is completely beyond me considering they're American producers). I checked out their first single Crazy. It's...different, funky, and I can even discern some definite electronica influence. But unmistakably, you'll recognize soul. Any thoughts on this new collaboration?
Yeah I heard it Carlito. There's a few great songs, but I'm not sure if the whole thing hangs together as a record. Then again, they're hardly trying to be Marvin Gaye... I'm gonna check them out later in the summer. I think they're on the festival circuit on the back of the single. Altogether now - I think you're craaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaazy...

It's good, not great. I think "Crazy" is a fantastic song, but nothing else on the record really matches it. I give the guys props for doing something different though.

Excellent album all the way through. I like this crazed concept album, songs from a state of insanity- "Crazy", the title song, "Boogie Monster", "Just A Thought", "Smiley Faces", "Necormancer", "Storm Coming", etc. Definately a load of soul raving through the tracks. I love this blend of electronica, soul and all the other what-nots they tossed in.

I'm digging the album a lot more than I expected to! I think the weak start on the disc initially led to some trepidation, but I've moved passed it now. I do think the strength of the album, aside from Crazy, is on the second half. Pretty much from Boogie Monster on, I really get into it. Necromancer is an excellent tune, and I enjoy Transformer a lot as well!
