I was just reading the latest Goldmine about Ruth Brown's death last month. I don't recall her passing being mentioned in the press when it occured in mid-November. Brown had so many hits for Atlantic in her time that the label became known as "the house that Ruth buillt". A few of Brown's more well known songs include "(Mama) He Treats Your Daughter Mean", "Teardrops in My Eyes", "5-10-15 Hours", "Oh What a Dream", and "Mambo Baby". For anyone interest in hearing a true soul legend with an amazing set of pipes, I recommend Miss Rhythm (Greatest Hits and More), the Rhino 2 cd comp or the Rev-ola album, Wild Wild Young Women which features 14 fantastic songs from Brown and the equally brilliant Lavern Baker. Ruth Brown was also featured in the 2004 "year of the blues" documentary, Lightning in a Bottle, a mixed bag of performances but worth seeing for Brown, Buddy Guy, and Solomon Burke. R.I.P Ruth Brown

I had not know this. Thanks. Ruth Brown was a bit of music historian. She knew a lot about it because music was real to her, something in her bones and blood. I enjoyed listening to her radio shows the last few years. Gonna have to get some of her cuts. One by one the seeds of modern music head off into the other world. Rock on...
