9 Lives - This album really surprised me; I was expecting it to be fairly by-the-book modern R&B, but there's a reggaeton influence on most of the tracks that comes off as really refreshing (and danceable), at least to my gringo ears. On top of that, DeLuna is apparently a trained opera singer or something, and she uses it to very nice and subtle effect in the background of a few tunes (not enough, as far as I'm concerned). It all comes together on the absolutely brilliant "Feel What I Feel." On top of that, DeLuna herself is gorgeous, and she co-wrote every song on 9 Lives. I'd hardly call it perfect, as the writing is a little inconsistent, but this is probably the most intriguing mainstream LP I've heard in a while. Highly recommended for anyone interested in modern R&B, Latin music, or pop in general.
9 Lives seems to have flopped in the US, despite managing one top 40 hit ("Whine Up"). I hope Kat does well enough elsewhere to record more, because she has a lot of potential.
Kat DeLuna!? is that a filipina artist!? cause her name sounds like one, anways i look forward of listeining to her songs soon, cause one of my favorite genre is rnb
