hi, everyone: so i've been scouring the internet to try and find some great instrumental soul albums of the 60s and 70s -- i've found a lot of great albums closer to the funk side of the spectrum, but i'd like to try and stay closer to soul, if possible. i'm pretty new to the genre, so if you have any suggestions, i would appreciate them. thanks for your help!

Best soul instrumental band- Booker T. & the MG's. Try the Green Onions album or perhaps their Very Best of comp on Rhino.

The Bar-Kays were mostly instrumental, especially in the early years. Best bet here would be their debut, Soul Finger.

Have you checked out "Introducing The Ice Man’s Band” - the album of instrumentals by Jerry “The Ice Man” Butler’s rhythm section? It's good.

Also Lee Oskar (of War) "Before The Rain" and any of the Love Unlimited Orchestra albums.
