Crazed, I'm not a big fan but here are a couple of compilations you might not be aware of: "Hey Everybody...I Gotta New Dance" and "Gettin' Soulful", both on Vampisoul. Label's got a website: www.vampisoul.com. You might also want to check out Pucho and His Latin Soul Brothers for a Latin Jazz fix. I reckon they're great.

Pucho & His Latin Soul Brothers can venture into cheese a bit for my liking. Ok though. I also got one of the NuYorican Funk Experience compilations and it was fantastic. Eddie Palmieri's VP Blues is one of my absolute favourite tracks of all time. Since then I've got into a bit of Ray Barretto (Hard Hands is ace, Acid almost as good, La Cuna is jazzier and not so great apart from a wonderful version of Stevie Wonder's Pastime Paradise). Willie Colon's Cosa Nuestra is to be recommended also.

Thanks for these recommendations, I've only heard Barretto and Colon on some v/a comps but definately like what I've heard. Seems to be a lot of '60s/'70s Latin soul/funk just getting around to being released on cd. I haven't heard much from modern bands trying to revive this sound, except for a few tracks on albums that are otherwise instrumental funk. Maybe the cd reissues will prompt more notice of such artists.

Tru, you've probably heard more than I have, but his stuff from the late-1960s/early-1970s (the only stuff of his I've heard) is pretty damn good. Crazed, I'd recommend: Legends of Acid Jazz, The Best of Pucho and the Latin Soul Brothers (both different compilations of late-60s/1970 stuff) and Super Freak (1972).
