"Godfather of Soul" James Brown dies

I regret I did not see him live over the years, despite many opportunities. He certainly had his ups and downs, personally and professionally, but he was truly nothing short of a legend and an icon.

I am so very sad Frowner. I love James Brown and just picked up Star Time about a week ago. This really sucks!

This does suck. He was here in town only a couple months ago but I didn't get to go, much as I wanted to. The last JB album I picked up was James Brown's Funky Christmas a few weeks ago. My introduction to his albums was the double LP, Hell, which was heavy on social conscious themes as well as the funky party JB was known for. There'll never be another like him. R.I.P Godfather of Soul.

Sad news.

Since he was hospitalized locally, it was a real surprise, given the local news stories yesterday that he was planning to perform later on this week,

Its funny how musicians dying prompts you to purchase their albums. I've owned the compilation 20 All Time Greatest Hits for years and have always loved it. I've had in the back of my mind to get Live at the Apollo 1963 for a while, but never did. Anyways, I downloaded it this morning and have listened to it a couple of times today. Its just as great as everything I've ever read about it. I noticed there's a 33 1/3 book on it and I bet it would be pretty good. Has anyone read it?

I already miss him. Whenever I would see or hear James Brown, it would seriously make my day. He just exuded fun, and set the standard for any entertainer. A very high standard at that.

it was Michael Jackson Idol..
and MJ released the next Statement:
Michael Jackson has released the following statement regarding the death of one of his major idols, James Brown, who sadly passed away on Christmas Day aged 73.

"I am extremely shocked and saddened by the death of my mentor and friend, James Brown. Words cannot adequately express the love and respect that I will always have for Mr. Brown. There has not been, and will never be another like him. He is irreplaceable.

"I send my love and heartfelt condolences to his family."
