Like Mission Impossible (1996), it's best to see Miami Vice (2006) - the movie - without trying to compare it to the television series or you are likely to be disappointed as the movie version is nothing like the television series. Standing alone, the movie is quite good as a serious, gritty, raw undercover police movie.

I thought MIAMI VICE was a much better movie than the second MISSION IMPOSSIBLE sequel. The former was directed by a master, Michael Mann, and the latter by a first-time director.

One thing about MIAMI VICE is that I couldn't figure out who the Asian actress was until the end credits. It drove me nuts trying to figure it out and I was flabbergasted that it turned out to be Gong Li. I actually didn't think she looked all that hot. She looked much better in some of the Chinese films she, particularly those directed by her then husband Zhang Yimou.

I can't help but being hypocritical of my own past comments, but I agree with you that Miama Vice (2006) had this Michael Mann distinctive quality that really hits the cinematic energy level into high gear. However, I also find myself twisting around because I enjoyed the Miami Vice movie more than the television series that I really didn't watch because I found it too commercial and tame while with Mission Impossible (2000) I continue to hope that a movie version of the television approach to the sophisticated plot sequences will someday be produced like the first Mission Impossible movie (1996) (that used sophisticated plotting but only as an incidental to the movie).

Take a look at who directed the original MISSION IMPOSSIBLE. It explains why that film was easily the best of the three and why it was a better film than MIAMI VICE.

I saw it, and was completely frustrated. It was a Colin Farrell brooding show, and totally underused the OSCAR winner standing next to him!

The dialog was hard to understand, and the plot had holes big enough for Arnie's Hummer to drive through.

saw it. didn't feel anything for it. forgot it. a total emotional disconnect that i've rarely experienced. bugs bunny walking onto the screen would've done wonders for the story.

there was nothing technically bland about the film's look. pace and editing was spot-on. even the performances were respectable. but there was nothing involving with any of the characters. whether they lived, died, loved, or hurt did not stir any feelings in me.

I actually liked MIAMI VICE quite a bit since I am a huge Michael Mann fan. From what I gather, MV was not a hit at the box office, though. Nevertheless, I hear that there will be a sequel. I'll be first in line if Mr. Mann directs.
