Do you always notice that when you walk into a store on Nov. 1, all the Halloween candy has been replaced by Christmas candy? Forget about 12 Days of Christmas; how about two months? Well being the anti-commercialization Humbug that I am, it reminded me to start a Holiday movie thread.

What Christmas-(or other holiday-) themed movies do you enjoy the most? Mine are pretty standard: "Miracle on 34th Street"(1947), "It's a Wonderful Life" and "A Nightmare Before Christmas". There are certainly lots of others, but I won't name those and kill off the thread before it starts. Also, if you'd like to mention why you like them or maybe some of your favorite scenes, that would personalize things.

I guess I'll be in the minority by taking the original, non-colorized "34th St." as my favorite favorite. Edmund Gwenn and eight-year-old Natalie Wood are so perfect together, and the ending and the scene where Kris Kringle talks to the Dutch refugee girl in her native tongue always get me going.

What about you?

Are you talking about movies that come out around christmas or movies with plots that are based around christmas?

This is about movies with a Christmas theme, or if you can mention some other holiday (Halloween, Thanksgiving, 4th of July, etc.), its theme.

The best movie for any holiday is "The Night before Christmas." Another good one is "A Christmas Story."

I actually loved "Scrooged" with Bill Murray, and another one, sort of out of left field, is "Lethal Weapon", which is set around Christmas time and actually ties into Riggs mourning his wife during the holidays. Yes, a little random, but I always think about that movie when I hear "Jingle Bell Rock."

"Home Alone", man, the movie's a classic. I dont care what anyone says. "Nightmare Before Christmas" of course. Standards like "A Christmas Story", but I always watch those little clay-mated Rudolph, Frosty, Santa Claus (Kris Kringle), and the Little Drummer Boy on Christmas Eve so those are on my list as well.

Hmm...favourite Xmas film huh?
Well, being a Tim Burton fan I'd have to say The Nightmare Before Christmas, Batman Returns and Edward Scissorhands are my favourites.
Cool
I also enjoy watching Willy Wonka and The Chocolate Factory, Home Alone1/2 and Scrooged Big Grin

I always enjoy "National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation". The metal sled, coated with anti-friction creme, always makes me chuckle.

"Home Alone" is another recent XMas fave, althought it's more like a live action Looney Tunes cartoon than a Christmas movie.

It's a "boring" and "typical" answer to give, but the best Christmas movie is:

"It's A Wonderful Life"

I'm sorry I didn't mention this earlier, but there's a thread about Christmas/Holiday Songs at General Music. Go and share over there, if possible. Thanks.

Some of my favorites would have to be The Nightmare Before Christmas (also a great Halloween film), Meet me in St. Louis, It's a Wonderful Life, and Miracle on 34th Street I suppose.

For comedy it is difficult to beat "Christmas Vacation." For reasons for sentimentality, my family loves to watch "The Bishop's Wife" with Cary Grant and David Niven (I forgot the great actress in that movie).

Boy, you got to carry that weight a long time!

The Bishop's Wife is a fun, warm movie, and that great actress was Loretta Young, who got the Best Actress Oscar that same year (1947) for The Farmer's Daughter.
