yeah, i mean there was nothing in the trailers, storyline, or actor's recent work that would've led anyone to believe this was going to survive more than two weeks in wide release. the no-name director didn't help either. but WOW. this baby moves. fast and with ok smarts it really plays to its adolescent premise with surprising charm. the reviews were more than generally positive.
david stratham's best work was in minor supporting roles in one or two films. so who would've thunk this guy who had failed in previous action flicks could run the tables with a movie whose plot was lamer than anything he had appeared in before. sooooo bizarre.

I had a surprisingly good time with Kevin Smith's recent CLERKS sequel. I haven't been Smith's biggest fan, finding most of his work puerile, but I must admit I liked this film more than I thought I would.
I also had a good time with DISTRICT B-13. I just wrote this one off as another chop-socky movie, which I loathe. They are really live action cartoons. This different, it was French, not Asian, and it was a different type of chop socky, something calling "Parking" or something like it.
The reviews were strong so I checked out the film and liked it quite a bit. Very well done.

district b-13 was fine. could've done without the preachy ending, but my expectations were more than satisfied by a film i had - at best - modest expectations for.
Love Actually actually surprised me. It wouldn't rank as one of my favorite films of all time but I think it's safe for me to say that it's the best romantic comedy I've ever seen. It's smart and has a stellar cast who deliver memorable performances.
I also was unsure about Casino Royale but when I came out of the theatre I was glowing.

Wow! My words, exactly. Totally surprised by Love Actually. There are a couple cheese parts (especially with the score), but overall it was pretty excellent. Maybe the most pleasantly surprised I have been with a movie. Not my fave movie, but yes, easily my fave rom-com.
Guess I should check out Casino Royale as per your recommendation.

Yeah I was surprised at how much I liked Casino Royale considering how much fuss was made when Daniel Craig was picked as the next Bond. If this is a glimpse of what upcoming Bond films will be like, then the series looks to be fun and exciting again.

biggest shock in recent times..... Snakes on a Plane.
not exactly acamedy award material by any stretch of the imagination but its amazing how a mediocre story and fairly low budget by Hollywood's standards can actually be turned around leaving you fairly pleased and surprised largely due to the involvement of a superb actor such as Mr Jackson.
I was surprised to like Constatine a decent amount. Going in I expected yet another lame-ass comic adaptation. While it isn't nearly as good as say Sin City, I still liked it quite a bit.

Batman Begins, i am not that much into the spiderman movies and the other batman movies (besides the hilarious cheese original, but i thought batman begins was amazing
BORAT. I heard about how rude and offensive it was so I expected a Jackass kind of movie, and while it contained a healthy dose of gross-out humour, I found the heart of the movie to be very intelligent in a non-PC, take no prisoners way. Most of all it was so funny I found myself still laughing out loud the next day just remembering bits and pieces of it.

CRANK is the one for me as well. Hell, Statham has picked mostly dogs, and on preview it looked forgettable. But to my delight, its Grand Theft Auto (PS2 game) as a movie. I love gaming, so I rather had fun with this. Media blender on. Fast, fairly funny, nicely edited. And I really liked HOOT, mostly for the scenery and the kids against developers storyline. I love Carl Hiaasen's novels, but I was expecting a butcher job ala STRIP. It's functional and of TV quality, but it's innocent and easy on the eye.

My wife made me watch Devil Wears Prada which I would never, ever have picked for myself. Its actually a pretty good movie. I was really drawn into the characters, and ended up genuinly caring about what happened to the main chick in the end. Meryl Streep is great as well, and not the shallow characature I would have expected. Yeah, its a chick flick, but I enjoyed it.

Yes, even though I thought the "chicks" all gave super performances, I thought that Stanley Tucci nailed his character, and this is coming from someone whose better two-thirds love to watch Project Runway.

Project Runway is(was) a good show. Although, I'm a little miffed that Bravo now feels the need to repeat it's formula with every occupation known to man. We're only a few seasons away from Top Janitor.

Right, here goes ALLLLLL credibility, and Monkey Boy's respect, but I chuckled along with that bloody Larry the Cable Guy movie one Saturday arvie whilst doing absolutely nothing, reflecting the movie's tone.
I'd never heard of the bloke, but it looked pretttty dodgy, and I was expecting to turn it off after 10, but no, it kept me there in a semi-comatose state for its entirety....... ....and now I shall slink away, and hope ol' MB don't read this...
