Now, I'm very serious about these two Verhoeven flicks. First off, Metacritic, where did you get that release date for Basic Instinct? That thing came out in 1992, while Total Recall WAS 1990. Everybody gets an opinion but from where did those five responders crawl out? I notice that the only person who graded it without commenting gave it a 10. I wonder what these critics or "users" would rate this thing if Hitchcock had directed it?

It seems that my picks are very similar to the previous poster - Royalfisticuffs.

However, he/she lists Field of Dreams...I'm very positive that came out in the 80's.

I wanted to do a Top Ten, but couldn't whittle down one from my list of 11.

Anyway, here we go...

1. Schindler's List
2. Pulp Fiction
3. Truman Show
4. My Name is Joe (Scottish movie not seen too much in America...won a best actor award at Cannes, though)
5. Shall We Dance? (the original Japanese version...not the American version that will have Richard Gere and JLo in it. Oh the blasphemy!)
6. Fargo
7. Sling Blade
8. Unforgiven
9. Boogie Nights
10. Goodfellas
11. Boys Don't Cry

i'm surprised to see that Being John Malkovich has not been mentioned. and Run Lola Run. those are both excellent.

also, the best movie of the 90s, i would have to say is Trois Couleurs: Red.

I would have to say the best film of the 1990s is Good Will Hunting. What a great flick and it never gets old.

Has any one here seen "Welcome to the Dollhouse", the debut film by Todd Solondz. Or am I just insane to think it's one of the best films of the 90's.

Yes, I saw "Welcome to the Dollhouse".

I thought it was interesting, and I was glad I saw it.

But one of the best films of the 90's? With all due respect, I don't think so.

Ah, what about Errol Morris's docs----or are documentarys not allowed. Id say "The Thin Blue Line" was one of the more important films of the decade.

I agree with you, Eccentro. It was released in 1988, but I believe the repercussions all occurred in the 90s, so I guess that makes it one of the most important films of both decades.

P.S. Documentaries always count. Any kind of film can count, including shorts, animation, maybe even home movies (well maybe not unless it gets distributed somewhere.)

I did leave off quite a few non-English language films, notably Cyrano de Bergerac and Europa, Europa. I also left off all the "cool" flicks.

There must be some more lists out there. Join in.
