The other night I was bored & decided to pop in "Me, Myself & Irene" because it'd been years since I'd watched it & I remembered cracking up like there was no tomorrow. However, it just wasn't all that funny to me anymore. I was shocked by how little I laughed! So, it got me thinkin', is there anyone else who has experienced this? Having a movie that was 100 times better the FIRST time you had seen it, & then, not-so-great the second time 'round?

I am sure that there are some movies that I feel that way about but I can't think of any right now. I will get back to you.

However, I have to say this, and don't take it the wrong way but maybe you didn't like Me, Myself & Irene that much because it just isn't a good movie! Big Grin

Yeah, I didn't like Me, Myself and Irene the first time.

For whatever reason, I did like Night at the Museum the first time I saw it. Now, though, I'm pretty embarrassed, especially because a buddy of mine keeps on making fun of me. I hate that movie now, when I think about it. And I haven't even seen it a second time. But I don't think that counts, does it?

Two things I remember finding funny about Me, Myself & Irene: 1) When he's trying to put the "injured" cow out of it's misery, and 2) When Zelwegger puts on the albino kid's glasses and she can see people sitting in a plane flying overhead.

No one else find that funny? I'll get my coat...

i went to see a Titantic exhibit at a museum near where i live. it was interesting, and sparked my desire to see James Cameron's mega-blockbuster again; i had seen it a couple times when it came out, but i was a youngster.

my god the love story was trite.

Usually this happens with half-assed comedies for me. Watch it the first time when needing a stress relief and laugh myself silly. Then the second time around it's not as funny for I'm in a less stressful mood. There's a Jennifer Aniston movie that comes to mind though the title escapes me.

Mr. and Mrs. Smith didn't quite have that super edge the second time I saw it. It still remains a favorite movie for me, but it didn't have the same emotional impact that other great movies have had on repeated viewings such as The Bourne Supremacy

It was cool and rainy this weekend, so I caught a couple movies on cable I hadn't seen in awhile, Brian DePalma's Mission Impossible, and Tim Burton's Batman.

I thought Mission Impossible held up very well. For a blockbuster, it had a pretty tight plot, and I like that DePalma managed to put his stamp on it. It still managed to look and feel like a Brian DePalma film.

Batman wasn't nearly as impressive as I remember. In fact, a lot of it seemed really hokey. It apparently takes place in the 80s, but it seems like Tim Burton wants it to take place in the 40s, based on the inner workings of the newspaper, police force, and the mob. In retrospect, I think Michael Keaton was the best part of that movie, even though he seemed like an odd choice for Bruce Wayne at the time.

On first viewing, I hated what Brian DePalma had done with script and characters and plot in his stamp on this television series, then on second viewing, I enjoyed it when I didn't compare it to the television series. I still believe though the avoiding the original theme of Mission Impossible avoids the real enjoyment that the television brought out. Without the focus on the detailed espionage plot for the good guys and the amazing efforts through special techniques, disguises, and braintwisters, a movie based on this type of ingeniuty, would really be a big hit as a movie. Now if only some director and producer would stick the original theme and make it much more quality movie type, then the action would literally blast off the screen with intelligence and make the audience feel proud of themselves watching it and think real good about the possibility of what a great governmental espionage system we have or could have.

The Blues Brothers. Man, this is not a funny movie. I'm not sure what we were all thinking. I also have a theory that Saturday Night Live (whichever generation you grew up with) is not as funny as you remember it. I grew up with the original cast. You take anyone in my age group, and you mention the Blues Brothers, or the Killer Bees, or Landshark, Coneheads, or Samurai diner, etc, and you're bound to get a laugh. Now, check out the DVD. Just not that funny. *Sigh*

I disagree with you kendo. I remember catching The Blues Brothers when I was about 8 years old, which was 13 years after the movie was released and I liked it. I have seen it on and off every few years after that I still think it's very funny. Last time, we rented it so we could sit down and watch the whole thing from front to back and I still laughed a lot. Even the ridiculous chase at the end is still hilarious. It may not be as funny as Planes, Trains and Automobiles or The Naked Gun films but it still is a rewarding film.

I also disagree with you when you say “I also have a theory that Saturday Night Live (whichever generation you grew up with) is not as funny as you remember it.” I grew up with an entertaining cast of Chris Farley, David Spade, Adam Sandler, Dana Carvey, Phil Hartman, Mike Myers and later on Will Ferell and Chris Kattan. I still find these episodes to be wildly laughable. I even buy “the best of’s” of Will Ferrell, Chris Farley (my personal favorite,) Adam Sandler and Phil Hartman to re-live some of those comedic performances.

I think that all of the aforementioned is relatively subjective which is probably why I still think all of it is funny and you don’t.

For me, it's "The Road Warrior". Don't get me wrong, it's still a cool film, but when I was a kid I thought that it was the greatest movie ever made. I could even quote most of the film word-for-word. Nowadays...yeah...I guess it's kind of good.

I remember Jay and Silent bob being one of the funniest movies I have ever seen in my life. I watched it again this week and found it still pretty funny but nothing gut wrenchingly funny like the first time.
