I loved the Cable Guy. I know I'll get crap for this, but I actually thought Pluto Nash carried some appeal. Look it might not have been great, not even that good, just not as bad as everyone led me to believe. Of course, when you want to see a big-hyped summer blockbuster, you want it to have certain elements that this didn't have... like a flashy plot/ plot elements.

I liked Equilibrium and I was kinda under the impression that a good number of people did as well. And then I saw it's average score on Metacritic... I know the movie didn't quite reach the visual level of The Matrix or the match the depth of 1984 or Fahrenheit 451, but a 33? Ouch!

The Terminal is another example that I talked about a while back in the Drama section. Also, I never knew Cable Guy was considered a bad movie.

Hi again!

Looking through this topic, I could only think how I actually LIKED (that is...thought it was quite funny) the original super-bomb from back in the day, Ishtar (with Dustin Hoffman and Warren Beatty). The songs they sang at the beginning were worth the price of admission, and I still remember the stupid joke about the blind camel!

I also digged Equilibrium, well the first two thirds of it anyway. It got pretty dumb towards the end, and the sudden change in his son's character didn't feel right.

As for Cable Guy, it got 38% on Rotten Tomatoes (it's too old for Metacritic).

I too stand in the minority that liked Waterworld. I am not so sure the critics disliked the movie or Costner most. Granted, it is far from the best movie I have seen, but it is far from being the fiasco the critics dubbed it.

Boy, you got to carry that weight a long time!

I also liked Cable Guy. The movie audience was not ready for a "dark" Carrey. The karaoke scene was almost worth the ticket price. The movie took the very sad issue of lonliness and allowed us to laugh about it, yet without forgetting how tragic it really is. This film was a far cry from "Liar, Liar" or "Dumb and Dumber." But, we needed something different from Carrey or he would quickly have become predictable and boring.

I liked both Waterworld and The Cable Guy. Liked, not loved. I am kind of a Kevin Costner fan, so maybe that made Waterworld a bit more bearable for me. I guess I sort of liked the story, too. The Cable Guy is still one of my favorite Jim Carrey movies. The scene at Medieval Times kills me every time, especially when he starts in with the Star Trek. The recreation of Altamont is great as well.

Il n'y a pas de hors-texte.
