CASTLE OF SAND. A 1974 Japanese suspense thriller directed by Yoshitaro Nomura. I learned about the film when it was mentioned in Nomura's obituary that appeared in the "Times." I've never heard of Nomura.

The Pacific Cinematheque did so likewise. His retrospective is what motivated me to campaign for proper Video Disc releases of pieces.

I am pleased that Criterion is releasing Vengeance Is Mine, as this is one of his best three films (along with Pornographers & Ballad/Narayama).

Breaking the Sound Barrier. It's not available on VHS

Well, I hate to tell a fellow film fan the bad news, but I owned this on video for yrs until sometime in the late 90's when it went missing, but maybe its no longer available, I dont know.

The Boys, another you mentioned is a pretty mediocre family drama with lots of young suburban males going psycho, railing against their sad, fucked up lives.

I personally demand the appearance on DVD of Michael Caine's Pirate classic, The Island

Oh, could I feel as I have felt, or be what I have been,
Or weep as I could once have wept, o'er many a vanished scene;
As springs in deserts found seem sweet, all brackish though they be,
So, midst the withered waste of life, those tears would flow to me.

Ali Baba & the Forty Thieves starring Jon Hall and Maria Montez. This definitely needs to be released on dvd, especially as The Thief of Bagdad was recently released. In fact, they should create an Arabian Nights movie themed box set. I know I'd buy a copy.

Just got hooked onto The Faculty recently after seeing this flick often repeated on cable. But why is this 1999 film out of print already?!?! There are worse films still available! Reissue it- now!
