Though this will not engage many, I do hope you might consider, what movies would a person who deals with theological issues encounter conflict for viewing and supporting its content? For example, the following is a list of movies I took heat for:
"Michael": Travolta as an angel. The theological content: the realm of the divine experiences the human conditition. How the self-righteous missed this one I do not know.
"The Devils Advocate": Pacino did a masterful job of incarnating the temptations the tease us all.
"Bruce the Almighty" : theological content: "What would we do if we were god for a day? Isn't this the ultimate human temptation?"

I am a lover of film and you can't imagine how weary I get of defending going to the movies period. However, some films like those above cause me tremendous grief. Which films do you think would cause someone like me tremendous pain for the religious content, positive and negative? (Some films that challenge religion are good because challenge is good; it requires us to actually THINK as to why we believe what we believe!)

Boy, you got to carry that weight a long time!

I feel like I'm constantly doing this with my mother with any movie containing religious elements! So I get where you're coming from. Wink I'm surprised you caught flack with "The Devil's Advocate", it's one of my mother's favorite movies.

As for some movies that could cause ya some grief: "The Prophecy" trilogy comes to mind. I love the story of a fallen angel finding redemption, but I'm sure most of the clergy could find it offensive in how it interprets God, angels and the Devil. "Hellboy" is another one: a good, catholic demon might could offend some and cause others to roll their eyes. "The Matrix" is an extremely violent (and cuss-filled) "messiah story" that some christians enjoy, but others (like my mother) couldn't sit through.

"I can't live the buttoned down life like all of you! I want it all: the terrifying lows, the dizzying highs, the creamy middles! Sure, I might offend a few of the blue-noses with my cocky stride and musky odor - oh, I'll never be the darling of the so-called 'City Fathers' who cluck their tongues, stroke their beards, and talk about what's to be done with this Monkey_Boy?!"
