I feel like I'm constantly doing this with my mother with any movie containing religious elements! So I get where you're coming from.

I'm surprised you caught flack with
"The Devil's Advocate", it's one of my mother's favorite movies.
As for some movies that could cause ya some grief:
"The Prophecy" trilogy comes to mind. I love the story of a fallen angel finding redemption, but I'm sure most of the clergy could find it offensive in how it interprets God, angels and the Devil.
"Hellboy" is another one: a good, catholic demon might could offend some and cause others to roll their eyes.
"The Matrix" is an extremely violent (and cuss-filled) "messiah story" that some christians enjoy, but others (like my mother) couldn't sit through.
"I can't live the buttoned down life like all of you! I want it all: the terrifying lows, the dizzying highs, the creamy middles! Sure, I might offend a few of the blue-noses with my cocky stride and musky odor - oh, I'll never be the darling of the so-called 'City Fathers' who cluck their tongues, stroke their beards, and talk about what's to be done with this Monkey_Boy?!"
