I recently watched Napoleon Dynamite with my daughters (18 and 22 years old) and really enjoyed it. I saw a simple spirituality in it and they thought I was a little crazy. For them it was just a great, whacky comedy. However, Napoleon represents the clumsy, unpopular person we can all be in given moment. However, deep down inside the boy can dance! Inside of each of us is a dancer! It is a powerful thing to see. It can even get "a Pedro" to believe he can be elected class president! This movie is very much about what is deep within all of us, and the powerful effect it can have on our circumstances. In making this interpretation of this movie I must remind myself and everyone else that I spend my life looking for the spiritual in the mundane. Sometimes I see what I want to see. Then again, maybe that's one of the great things movies do for us; they allow us to see and experience what we need at that time. If you liked the movie, why? I really am interested.

Boy, you got to carry that weight a long time!

Haha, yup you've totally got it ! I though I was the only one who knew I could be president and bust a move together if Id only try harder.
That is a interesting observation and one that everyone relates to. So yeah i agree, nice. I think this is certainly a movie people connect with for different reasons. The kids like it's Kookiness and the older for its semblance to <life?> woah thats funny.

granted

I didn't notice that when I watched it, but that makes a lot of sense. I was surprised to learn that Jon Heder is a devout Mormon, and the Hess brothers are either Mormon or some other Christian denomination, so there could easily be some Christian values and teachings snuck into the movie. The most obvious one for me is "Blessed are the meek, For they shall inherit the earth," for Pedro and Napoleon beating that popular girl in the class elections, but there are probably many more.
