Has anyone here seen this film? I just rented it because my friend at universal said it came out on dvd and recommended it. I thought it was clever. How did other people react?
The movie looked interesting to me when I read about it. Such ham fisted marketing tactics, though, make me less likely to give it a fair viewing.
Oh, and spamming boards devoted to the discussion of serious topics among the Latino population was a particularly nauseating touch, FeLicks99. You should be proud.

Finding the posts is easy thanks to Google. The trick is to be sure you're not falsely accusing an innocent member. Mentioning Universal is a red flag since they have a department devoted to this kind of marketing effort. Beyond that, if the member has a history of joining many, many message boards and opening one (occasionally two) threads regarding the same topic, that's usually a giveaway. FeLicks99 made it easy by posting wildly contradictory stories.
Honestly, if FeLicks99 were an indie film maker announcing a movie, I wouldn't have much of a problem with such a thread, providing the poster were up front about it. Universal's systematic program of shilling their wares using these "fans" is insulting to all our intelligence.

I think that the real question here is. How long did it take you to make all of those links LT? What did you think about my idea about the posts before you start a thread?

Well, to paraphrase Bob Cratchit, I was out making rather a bit too merry in celebration of a friend's birthday, so both my memory and judgement of time may be a bit hazy, but if past experiences are any way to judge, I would say no more than ten or fifteen minutes. It always takes a few minutes to decide which links tell the story best.
I think your idea regarding a threshold number of posts before one can start a thread is a good one, Mike, but I tend to prefer the flexibility of active moderation.
