This guy has been producing some of the most memorable scores for decades! He is responsible for Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Jaws, E.T., Harry Potter, Close Encounters, The Cowboys, etc. I don't think that Speilberg or Lucas' films would be nearly as memorable if it were not for this man. Do you have a favorite piece or scene?
Mine would have to be at the end of Jaws, when the remains of the shark are floating down. It is some of the most beautiful piano music. Check it out if you haven't seen it in a while.
Another would have to be the Indiana Jones theme.

My love for Spielberg and Lucas should make it clear that I like John Williams muy mucho. I think my favorite Williams music includes all the scenes on Quint's boat Orca during the last half of "Jaws" (much of the music sounds like something from a classic pirate movie); the Toots Theilemans harmonica solos in "The Sugarland Express" (especially at the end); all the music during the mothership scene in "Close Encounters"; the memorable new theme added in "The Empire Strikes Back"; and almost anything in the three Indiana Jones films. I guess I'm not too original, huh?

As far as scenes go, I love the Omaha Beach scene in Private Ryan. But as far as entire scores go, I love his theme from The Patriot. His score from Apollo 13 is also very moving and one of my favorites. But of course, I couldn't live without Indiana Jones, Star Wars or even Superman!
Also, there is a composer that many get mixed up with Williams. Randy Edelman, while he has done a lot of crappy films, has done a few excellent scores that sound very similar to John Williams' style. Give a listen to his scores from Gettysburg, Last of the Mohicans (that I know you've all heard) and even Dragon: the Bruce Lee Story. All great scores.
