Whilst being somewhat similar to a rather neglected thread in action (greatest action sequences) I think this earns its own place:
1. Three way showdown in l buono, il brutto e il cattivo extra points for being snobbish with the title of this classic? 2. Ripply and Queen Alien in Aliens 3. Deniro and Pacino in teh coffee shop in Heat 4. Brando and the Waterfront boss in On The Waterfront 5. Luke and Vader in The Empire Strikes Back

Within the genre of the good ol western gunfight I thought the showdown in "Open Range" was good because of its realism. Who couldn't like the showdown in the first Rocky movie? I thought the showdown between the greasers and soci(s) in "The Outsiders" was especially relevant to the message of the film. I loved the courtroom showdown in Paul Newman's "The Verdict." Finally, the showdown in "High Plains Drifter" was so unrealistic it was fantastic!
Boy, you got to carry that weight a long time!

I'm sorry I have to include this, but I just watched it over the weekend and it played very heavily in my childhood: Daniel LaRusso Vs. Johnny Lawrence at the All Valley tournament.
Two Words: Crane Technique.
----------------------- It's been emotional.
