My next two Netflix rentals will be SLAM DANCE, which is a 1987 film directed by Wayne Wang that starred Tom Hulce. I didn't see this one when it received its original theatrical run and I don't know why. I don't even remember it. Wang was an interesting director who used to make interesting indie films like CHAN IS MISSING before becoming a director for hire and turning out mediocre product in recent years.
And my other Netflix selection is D'ARTAGNAN'S DAUGHTER, a French film directed by Bertrand Tavernier that never did getting picked up for commercial distribution in the U.S.
Come and See is an absolute masterpiece. It's been about 15 years since I saw it, but the landscapes and the horror remain with me.
Oh, could I feel as I have felt, or be what I have been, Or weep as I could once have wept, o'er many a vanished scene; As springs in deserts found seem sweet, all brackish though they be, So, midst the withered waste of life, those tears would flow to me.

Sounds good...I still have to catch up with The Science of Sleep, but tell me what you think of all of 'em. Maybe you can import a Honey for Stranger Than Fiction? I'm serious. Don't get mad at me because I HEAR ya.

I watched The Science of Sleep tonight but am going to watch it again before returning it. It's too wild to grasp in one take, for me anyway. Too many close-to-home issues in this movie. Very surreal and Charlotte Gainsbourg- hard to beat that combo.
Haven't seen the other dvds yet. "Import a Honey for Stranger Than Fiction"? Hmmm.

Yeah, Maggie was great in Stranger Than Fiction. I'd take her!
So, I recommend that film and The Science Of Sleep, will probably end up buying a copy when Blockbuster has them used for sale. The Prestige is a different story. I was disappointed: too long, too melodramatic, too mean spirited and I didn't like the sequence for the storytelling. Neither Hugh Jackman nor Christian Bale kept my interest in this though I did like Michael Caine and Rebecca Hall.

The last movie I rented was Miami Vice. Not exactly an art piece, but it was really pretty good. I think Mann pretty much nailed what he was going for. Not as good as Collateral or Heat, but still a decent flick.
