I've noticed that lately, Roger Ebert's reviews have not been showing up in MetaCritic scores. Does anyone know why this is?

He's been ill. He had a relapse of cancer. He hasn't been on his show. Roeper has been paired with guests. A.O. Scott, the "Times" chief film critic, has been getting a lot of face time.

Well I wish him a speedy recovery. The reviews posted in my town's newspaper have been a mixture of Richard Roeper, David Germain, and Christy LeMire. (last two sound familiar to anyone?)

I've found that Roeper tends to be generous, I like Germain, and LeMire has an annoying habit of giving films a bad star review and then what sounds like a great written review.

People criticize Ebert for getting reviews wrong every once and a while, but for my money, he's the best reviewer I've read. Get well soon!

I agree. I love his website: Rogerebert.com! 'The Little Movie Glossary' is the truest & most hilarious take on movie "rules". There are so many pages of them I haven't read them all yet & I've been picking up where I left off for a couple months now! Everytime I buy a new DVD, I jump onto his 'site to find out if he liked it as much as I did. Sometimes, I'm actually surprised that he did, othertimes, I think he's being a tad hard on it, but, everytime it's a joy to read his reviews. He does have a GREAT sense of humor & even if I liked it & he didn't, I'll still laugh at the stabs he makes at it. Man, Mr. Ebert, PLEASE GET WELL & COME BACK! I MISS YOUR REVIEWS!!!!

I'm surprised you could find a film he didn't like. If so, it would be a first.

Actually, he hated "The Usual Suspects". I was shocked by that, since I've NEVER run into anyone that didn't like that movie! He was confused by the way the timeline bounces around in the movie.

The last time a saw Mr. Ebert in a news story he was unable to talk and had to rely on someone to communicate for him as well as having a facial deformity. However, it appeared to be on his way to recovery but whether he can come back completely wasn't made entirely clear. He and Siskel - want a crap that age does to all of us!
