Gone Baby GoneCaught this one today and enjoyed it quite a bit. Some strong directing by Ben Affleck and his brother Casey acts very well in this film. It had a bit of a confusing story line but the flow and acting, also from Morgan Freeman and Ed Harris, is top-notch. I couldn’t help but feel when I was watching this that it has “Oscar” written all over it. A nice story line showing Ben Affleck’s come-back and a good solid film to boast. This isn’t to say that the movie wasn’t very well-done, because it was and I do recommend it.

I hope you're havig a good time there, crazed. I'd vote for Abbott & Costello Meet Frankenstein and then Young Frankenstein to continue the Univeral series.
I caught "Young Frankenstein" last weekend (I needed a good comedy) and next weekend is "Abbott & Costello Meet Frankenstein". With the A&C film, I especially like the bonus documentary that features comments from the offspring of the stars of the movie.

In the spirit of Halloween I watched The Shining last night. I'm not in the mood for "scary" movies very often, but The Shining is one of the best in the genre. Still freaks me out when Jack says "I'm not gonna hurt ya. I'm just gonna bash your brains in!."

TransformersHonestly, it was a lot better than I thought it was going to be for a Micheal Bay movie. That doesn't mean it was great, but compared to anything else he has done this is the only one that would I'd pay to see in theaters. I HATE Shia LaBeouf but that didn't ruin the movie. I think if you're a die-hard transformers fan then this movie would be a catastrophe as it's hardly relevant to the franchise. The plot and story line, as usual, are confounding and ancillary to the action - which at times is shot well. There was some surprisingly sharp/adult humor moments scattered throughout that made the script bearable, at least in the beginning. quote: Government agent: "Mr. Bay, those aren't ideas, those are special effects". Michael Bay: "I don't know the difference." Government agent: "We know...we know." -South Park, "Imaginationland"
After watching that south park episode (re-run) last night on comedy central, they played Shawn of the Dead, which I watched for the umpteenth time (bad idea staying up until 2:30am btw). It's a great movie that stands up to many viewings as I pick up funny moments I've forgotten or missed. I also caught a little bit of bravo's "30 more scarriest movie moments" or something. The show featured a moment from The Exorcism of Emily Rose , one of the only recently made scary movies I'd seen. I had forgotten that I actually enjoyed that movie and was somewhat frightened by it (of course not as much as my female friend that I saw it with). I'd recommend it if you're into exorcism movies... and Jennifer Carpenter.

so, the virginia film festival wrapped up today. http://www.vafilm.com/php-bin/filmfest/schedule.phpi really enjoyed most of the films i saw. "hoop reality" lived up to my expectations. it was truly phenomenal. i also really, really, REALly liked "autism: the musical" (is it bad that i found it FUNNY?)and "before the devil knows your dead" romance and cigarettes was asoutely phenomenal, and turturro captivating. probably the best part of the festival, at least for me. i saw a few stinkers, too, but i wont get into that. yet.
if the sky were to open up there would be no rule, no law. only you and your memories.

I rented Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer this weekend, and it was about what I expected: brainless and crappy. So, at least I wasn't disappointed. My main problem with the FF franchise is that the characters are so one dimensional and cartoonish. The action wasn't even that great. D+

Like I mentioned in another thread, last night I saw One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest. Still the best film I have ever seen with so many memorable lines, scenes, characters and emotions. We are lucky to have that film.

I saw American Gangster yesterday. It was decent. However, if you've seen Goodfellas, Scarface, Blow or any other "rise and fall of a drug kingpin" movies, you've seen it, and you've probably seen it done better. My major problem with the film is that although it was well made, and well acted, it offered little in the way of surprises or new ideas. B-

Rat Pfink a Boo Boo (1966) Finally saw this legendary cult classic tonight after hearing about it for so many, many years. From Ray Steckler, the bottom basement budget creator of "The Incredibly Strange Creatures Who Stopped Living And Became Mixed Up Zombies", this is a must-see, fun filled flick. Rockabilly singer Lonnie Lord (Ron Haydock) uses his super-hero alias Rat Pfink to save his sexy girlfriend Cee Bee Beaumont (Carolyn Brandt, cult film goddess) from a demented street gang. Boo Boo is Rat Pfink's sidekick whose secret identity is a mild mannered gardner. The fiendish gang first harass Irma La Streetwalker, stealing the money from her purse and leaving her shook up. Horrible! Then they track down Brandt through the phone book (which, ironically, Haydock has just delievered to them as part of his phone book delivery job) and decide to kidnap and ransom her. Terrible! Haydock chips in a few rockabilly tunes throughout and a dynamite surfabilly number at the end. Plus! just when you think you've had enough action- there's an escaped ape for the dynamic duo to contend with. If you're wondering why the title isn't "Rat Pfink and Boo Boo", well, it was supposed to be just that but there was some kind of error when the title was made. Steckler wouldn't pay $50 to have it corrected. Now that's one crazed budget minded director. Besides the cheese and the eye candy, this film is top notch for the different color tints which changes with the mood of the film. Dig the crazy chase scene with Rat Pfink aboard the Pfink-mobile, eagerly pointing the way for Boo Boo to follow the kidnapping fiends! A true classic.
