I'm not a big cinema-goer or even a big movie fan, but I hired two dvds that have both been recently released in the UK for rental- Garden State and Sideways. It's Sideways I wanted to talk about.
I'm into movies that make you think; that stay with you more than a few days. I also love comedies and, having read all the reviews, I got myself a bottle of wine (appropriate, as it happens) and settled down to enjoy Sideways. What a lame film. I can't tell you how disappointed I was. I was told it was hilarious. Well I think I raised a smile once when the car missed the tree. I was even moved to post this message, so it must be bad. I will not trust reviews again.
BTW Garden State was very good, if a little mushy at the end.

Well I have HBO on demand so I watched "So I Married An Axe Murderer", with Mike Myers! Yes so it is an older movie but not too old. But it's a very entertaining movie!
I would give it 8/10
Last Movie Seen: There Will Be Blood 9/10 Now Playing: COD4

Istanbullies, it's a shame you didn't like Sideways! I wonder if its one of those times that expectations get raised so much that it is difficult for the movie to meet them? I really liked it but went in expected a nice little movie, which it was. It wasn't overly LOL funny but had its moments, I thought. More than that, I thought it had heart. Better luck finding your next movie!!
Brian, I saw So I Married... years ago and its a fun one. I love the "Woman, woe-man" poetry slam scene!

cheers Elle. I realize I'm in the minority with this film and sorta feared a backlash. You were very understanding. Garden State had a lot of 'heart' so I'd recommend it if you haven't seen it yet.

I saw Garden State when it was in the theaters last summer and really liked it. I think Zach Braff has a ton of promise as an actor and apparently as much more too. I also liked Natalie Portman's role a lot too. I agree that it went a little too sappy at the end, but for the most part, it captured the unease that you feel when you don't exactly know where you are going in life or how you got to where you are...

Of course, be ready to defend your opinion, Jman. I'd like to here some intelligent negative feedback on Episode III, and you could probably provide me some.
Wow Chuvchuv, I'm so impressed that you can copy and paste nearly an EXACT quote Rick Groen of GLOBE AND MAIL. Take a look at this yeah, if you look there at the bottom right, its nearly exactly the same. You know that is copywritten Chuvchuv? Be more original next time.
Nickel-Z, he wasn't copying it from Rick Groen, it's an actual quote from the movie. There was no way for him to be more original, because he was quoting the movie.

Man! I don't even read Globe and Mail..I am reacting from a scene in the movie which I find distasteful, I'm sure some people feel the same way as I do.. Rick Groen included.
Oh my bad, its just, it seemed odd that two people saw it and found the same exact quotes to use to say they didn't like the Padme and Anakin scenes. I saw the movie opening night, I really really enjoyed it and didn't find it at all sappy. My apologies, I guess it was just a coincidence. I feel kind of like an ass now because I was being snappy and all...
Kung Fu Hustle, thought it was absolutely brilliant! Far superior to Shaolin Soccer which I also enjoyed. Great action, hilarious comedy, perfect acting, the whole package! Elektra, which was better than I'd imagined, it reminded me of Mortal Kombat a bit, but certainly a major improvement from the horid Daredevil. National Treasure was the expected crap fest. Hotel Rwanda was decent, a little on the safe side of the fence, but still a solid film. Ichi:Episode Zero manga was alright, cool visual style, but could have used a little more plot development. Full Metal Yakuza was mildly disappointing, one of the weaker Miike films I have seen. The Aviator was interesting, great acting throughout, but fairly weak direction at times from Scorcese I felt. Cate Blanchett was amazing in it! Mean Girls and Saved, similar in feel, preferred the former over the latter, but both were pretty good. Star Wars Episode III was the best of the prequels, which will mean something different to everyone!
