Two more I just thought of:

1. Napoleon Dynamite - For the simple fact that "Forever Young" by Alphaville is on it. Sparklemotion's version of "Time After Time" is great, too.
2. The Wedding Crashers - I remember thinking during the movie the music was cool. You don't find bands like Flaming Lips, Death Cab..., Guster, and Spoon on many soundtracks.

It's been emotional.

Snatch has a great one, I really like it. Gladiator also has a good one. Not in a rock sense, but in a practical sense, all these songs fit the movie and set the mood.

The double cd, UK release of "Donnie Darko". The US version omitted way too many tracks from the film. If you liked the instrumental score that played during the movie's theatre scene and over the end credits, it's on the UK set.

I liked the following:
Grease
North Country (good Dylan tracks)
Coal Miner's Daughter
(I can't wait for "The Man in Black)
Dirty Dancing

However, the best is "A Hard Day's Night". This movie matched the songs with the individual personalities of the Beatles with great effect!

Trainspotting
Great movie, great sountrack
Gattaca
Amazing, haunting score
Lost in Translation
Perfect score for the movie

Again, a great score by Vangelis, I think?

For those who are dazzled by Las Vegas, the composition by Mark Isham in The Cooler (2003) is probably the most mesmerizing music about the seemingly magical city and perfectly captures its glitz and romance image.

I also agree and admire with the selection of Vangelis (Evangelos O. Papathanassiou) music in Blade Runner (1982) and his use of percussion and chimes of which the delayed release of the soundtrack in itself was controversial.

The Crow is a good soundtrack with some good exclusive songs from RATM and NIN. It's more a compilation-type than an atmospheric soundtrack, but it suits the movie well.
Another good one with more instrumental stuff, is A View To A Kill, from the last James Bond with Roger Moore.

"Judgement Night," along with the "Blade" soundtracks weren't bad.

I think many people overlook "End of Days" as being a really good hard rock/heavy metal soundtrack. In stark contrast, "City of Angels" was also some very good easy listening/adult contemporary music. Anything overseen by Cameron Crowe ("Vanilla Sky," "Almost Famous," etc.) or Wes Anderson ("The Royal Tenenbaums," "The Life Aquatic With Steve Zissou") is also worthwhile.

I really enjoy the soundtrack for Legend of 1900 it is instrumental. Every time I listen to the CD I feel like I'm watching the film in my head. I had to order it from the US tho, it is not available in Australia.

Does anyone know if the soundtrack for The Pianist is any good? Love to know.

Em

Though having already responded once, I couldn't help but realize that I left out a gem for a baby boomer like myself. The "Big Chill" had a fantastic soundtrack!!!

i reakon cheaper by the dozen, it introduced me to some really good artists like sum 41 & simple plan.

I also think the soundtrack from the spiderman movie was pretty good for the fact that there was some nickleback on there, the song was hero too.

I love the soundtrack for Juno. It perfectly matches the movie, and it includes Ellen Page and Michael Cera rendition of Anyone Else But You of The Moldy Peaches...awesome. The rest of the album is of course along the same vibe, a good album to sing along to in the car Smiler
