tabuno, I agree with you about The Cooler. I think it's a very traditional, very entertaining flick, but that it does use new-fangled goodies, such as no "stars", low-budget, and gritty realism to mask the fact that it's a fairy tale. I think it's a movie which many people who say that "they don't make 'em like they used to", would love. (Me, included )

There is another movie I remember going back to see. I have also rented it once. It was Rober Duvall's "The Apostle." I am sure my work makes this a fascinating film, but I think this was an outstanding movie. It may be Duvall's best work. If you grew up in the "tent meeting" world of revivals, faith-healers, etc. you will recognize that he nailed his character. He embodied a man torn between what he wanted to be and the man he was; a man with feet of clay and uncontrollable desires like everyone else. This was and is a great film.
Boy, you got to carry that weight a long time!

Sometimes there comes a time when I know it's much better to be quiet and keep my mouth shut and when it comes to The Apostle this is probably the one movie that I'm going to just keep absolutely quiet about unless anyone believes in civil war on the internet. That's all.

The Apostle falls into the genre of films which also includes Leap of Faith with Steve Martin and one of my two favorite films of all-time, Elmer Gantry. Have you seen those, Rev.?

Roger Ebert's review of "Being John Malkovich" persuaded me to rent it. It still is one of the strangest movies I've ever watched, and I must have watched it half a dozen times.

I understand what you mean. Though I didn't have a Roger Ebert's review at the time, the initial experience of the movie itself made me return to it again and again.

I generally don't go to see movies a second time in the theatre. Now, if I really like a film, I'll wait for the DVD to come out.
Before the age of the DVD I remember going to see PULP FICTION three times I was so blown away by the film. That film is awesome. I do own the Laser Disc and it's been 10 years since PF came out I've gotta give it another look one of these days.
Another film that completely blew me away was THE ENGLISH PATIENT. Again, three trips to the threatre and a purchase of the Laser Disc. Another one I've gotta take another look at since, like PF, I haven't seen it since its original release.
I have bumped some great threads that worthy members have created that haven’t seen much action lately. I know we have a new batch of members and maybe they’d like to share their opinions in a few of these threads.

The first movie I ever went to see more than once was the Matrix. Then Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End... I saw it three times. The first time, normal. I don't know anyone who hasn't seen that movie. Second time, my friend and I bought tickets for Pirates 3, upon deciding that I didn't want to see Shrek 3 again (didn't particularly like it), and she didn't want to see Spiderman 3 again. So since we both moderately enjoyed Pirates 3, we saw it again. The third time, I saw it with my dad 'cause he hadn't seen it yet.
