The movie was set in a 1950-60 small southern town. Hopper played a whacko suffering from a severe oedipus complex. His relationship with his mother closely resembled that in Hitchcock's Psycho. He abused his wife mercilessly. In the end I remember he commits suicide. Few people can play a dysfunctional person any better than Hopper. I cannot find this movie anywhere, or the title. Anyone know of this movie?

Of course you pick an actor that has been in 150 movies! Red Face I think you may be thinking of Blue Velvet.

PARIS TROUT was not a theatrical film; it was a made-for-cable film, albeit one that was very good.
